Summary

The looming war with Darrow has faded to a distant shadow, but Will’s continued studies at Wurthaven are disrupted by an unforeseen threat.

Selene’s absence has raised suspicion among her friends and Will’s father-in-law, the king, is now directing his ire at the obvious culprit: his daughter’s new husband. Meanwhile, the citizens of Cerria have begun disappearing and a shadowy figure is stalking Will’s sister, Laina.

With his power pushed to the limit, Will finds himself attempting to preserve a family that rejected him and trying to save a city whose king might rather see him dead. Desperate for help, he may not be able to trust the powers that have supported him in the past, for though the fae could be the source of the catastrophe, they only offer their assistance for a price. Evil stalks the streets of Cerria at night, seeking the blood of his family, the destruction of the city, and the death of the king.

Will may have to decide what is most important for Terabinia: preserving the people of its most prosperous city or saving its questionable ruler.

So far the most entertaining in the series

Scholar of magic is yet another great book in the series that has a great balance when it comes to tension and humor. This book is by far the most tense and with highest stakes out of the 3 I've listened to so far but it's also the funniest of the bunch and made me laugh audibly several times, epilogue having quite a lot of good jokes that landed for me and really made me feel like everything is fine for the characters (for now) after all of the horrors they just went through.

Speaking of horror I'm pretty sure this one qualifies as a horror novel since the main conflict revolves around an increasingly dangerous threat of vampires who are turning others into their kind left and right without caring about what would happen if the general populous learns about them.

Sucks you into the story as always

Once again Mr manning has been able to make me forget about the real world.

TGR is as always one of the greatest narrators there is in the business, brings the characters to live as always, love his interpretation of Aragon really packs a punch with his swearing.

This new series of mr mannings is slowly becoming one of my favourites, if this series keeps heading in the same direction it will soon surpass his mageborn series which I very much enjoyed

excellent story progression

really good characters again, for some reason I find the accent for the protagonists grandfather doesn't seen to fit but thats probably being overly picky since there's little else to criticise.
