A comprehensive history of Scotland
As someone visiting Scotland with little knowledge of it’s history, I was looking for a comprehensive overview that would offer as much of a balanced and honest perspective as possible. And this delivered. Unfortunately, the narration was somewhat monotone and could have been more engaging in its delivery. Nonetheless, I very informative listen.

The Best Scottish history book I have ever read!
If you have ever wanted to know the whole story about this incredible and complex country you must have this. You will not find any that even comes close. A treasure for today and tomorrow. Thank you Alistair.

comprehensive and informative
a good comprehensive history, but I felt that it lacked narrative, analysis or evaluation. Feels like you end up with something that leaves you without much to admire, respect or learn from.

Good listen
I found it overall to be a good book. As an introduction to Scotland's history excellent.
The narrator however surprised me as obviously a Scot her pronunciation of place names was sometimes way off.

A fair depiction of Scottish history without unnecessary romance or cliche

Very poor performance
I might have found this book interesting if it hadn’t been for the almost monosyllabic performance from the narrator. On the up side it’s an excellent way to get to sleep if you’re struggling with insomnia.

not easiest to listen to
narrator is hard to listen to at times as it feels like they are just reading a list and is so monotone. interesting and well put together book apart from that

If you enjoy digression, this book is for you.
This book seems more like an endless digression and less like an actual discussion on Scottish history. It jumps from 8,000 BC to the signing of the declaration of Arbroath and back, via hunter gatherers in Doggerland and Scandanavia.
I'm sure there is a point, but to be frank I'm missing it.
