About this listen
Before Dr. Watson, there was Mr. Stamford . . .
London, 1876
Mr. Stamford meets Sherlock Holmes while studying at St. Bartholomew's Medical College in London. With his intense stare and unorthodox methods of doing things, Holmes has already gained a reputation as an eccentric but brilliant man.
When suspected intruders are sighted at the British Museum, Holmes is called upon to give his opinion of what happened.
But before he can come to any conclusions, something horrifying happens—one of the great treasures of the world, the priceless Rosetta Stone, is stolen from the museum.
The thieves have left a note demanding a ransom. And if it is not fulfilled they threaten to cast the Stone into the ocean so it can never be found again.
With the police on the wrong track, it is down to Holmes to solve the complex case. And when the burglary case turns into a murder investigation, it becomes a race against time before more victims are killed.

Very interesting concept .
I thought the concept and style of this book excellent, my only criticism is that it could have been a little more concise. The descriptions of the certain areas of the period was a very nice touch and added authenticity to the novel.

Quality Holmes
If you've exhausted the cannon, you could do a lot worse than this. It uses another sidekick and focuses on the university days of Sherlock rather than trying to squeeze in a 'forgotten' or 'lost' adventure from the classic time span. It doesn't do anything particularly new or offer anything groundbreaking, but that's why it's such a good listen. The author understands why people love Sherlock and provides a plentiful helping without trying to get in the way with anything that would contradict the readers understanding of homes from the cannon works. Highly recommended.

Interesting...
An enjoyable and interesting take on Doyle's characters, perhaps a little longer than necessary (may have benefited from some additional editing) but worthwhile nonetheless. I will look for further works by the same author.

Classic Sherlock Holmes!
Linda Stratmann does an enviably good job at replicating the classic aspects of Arthur Conan Doyle’s infamous detective. While also adding something new. Highly recommended and I will definitely be listening to more in this series.

Poor reading of a reasonably good book
The narration was of less than average quality, but the imitation of voices was very good, and it helped identifying the characters in dialogues.
The story was average. The introduction of Stamford is very good and creates a new dimension to the character of Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock Holmes - earlier years mystery
A mystery set during SH College years before his acquaintance with Dr Watson when developing his skills in analysing the information before him and in the science lab.
Thoroughly enjoyable read. You feel you’re getting to know the younger man.
Recommend.

Not bad
There are now a lot of Holmes novels not by Conan-doyle, none of them are better but this was not bad, worth a listen.
