I read this book before listening to the audible version because its such a useful book and I much prefer to listen. Shipping container living I fairly new to me so the detail provided here from the type of container, to what to consider in terms of plans, building and general design were perfect. I am passionate about sustainable living and now feel I know this topic and might think about looking into this more for myself - it is such a great idea and this is a very god book.

This audiobook was detailed and to the point. The author explains every crucial thing. Interior and exterior designs were both discussed in detail. I was tired of paying rent, and now I wanted to live in a rent-free, cheap house for the rest of my life that should be beautiful. After listening to this audiobook and following its instructions, I was able to build my dream house. I am grateful to the author for writing a book on this topic, as it was much needed. I would highly recommend this book to all the people who live in rented houses.

This book is for you if you are a city manager or city mayor with a homeless housing issue. This book offers a solution if your city has this problem and current efforts have failed. So after listening to or reading this book, let’s do more than complain about it. How about providing the community with a solution? By listening to this book and then sending a copy to those who can take action. This is nothing new, and there have been vast improvements in the construction of affordable housing using shipping containers.

The global container homes market size is projected to grow from $59.27 billion in 2022 to $87.11 billion by 2029, at a CAGR of 5.7% during the forecast period. I remember watching HGTV about five years ago when the little houses first came on the real estate market. I thought that this was just a fad and it would not last. For a beginning cost of $2,000, maybe container housing is the solution to provide low-cost housing to homeless families.

In 2016 a USC doctoral student (Donna Gallup) unveiled Potter’s Lane, a 16-unit housing project in Midway City, an unincorporated area of Orange County. The energy-efficient, environmentally friendly complex is made from over 50 Port of Los Angeles shipping containers.

“The buildings were designed in a U shape with a center courtyard. Our military servicemen and women are trained to care for and watch each other’s back,” Gallup says. “We wanted to give them an environment where they could be connected and have their own space, but at the same time, they could be part of a community they can thrive in.”

This book got me so excited to explore the "how to" of shipping container homes! It's creative, cost effective, and possible! Chapter 2: "Building Ideas", discusses lots of different variations, depending on your site, climate, needs, and wants. The author is easy to understand, and gives the reader the know-how and confidence to actually convert a shipping container to a fully functional home. I was also impressed with his knowledge of plumbing, electrical, solar, wind energy, and septic tanks! With traditional home prices out of reach for so many, especially young adults, this is a great alternative, and you can really do it yourself. You'll learn what it takes and love listening to the audio version. I highly recommend! 5 stars!
