The Sunday Times Top 10 best seller.
Sunderland, 1941
With a brief break in air raids providing some much-needed respite from the war, things are looking up for head welder Rosie, who has fallen head over heels for Detective Sergeant Miller. But how long can their romance last in such uncertain times?
Life remains full of challenges for Gloria, who must face her abusive ex-husband and confront her own guilty conscience about baby Hope’s real father. The secret is tearing her apart but if she admits the truth, she will risk losing everything.
Both women are determined that their love and faith will be enough to keep the most difficult of promises, but nothing is as simple as it seems....

excellent
the story is excellent, well written and read. The narrator is very good and does not just read but seems to become the different characters.

Interesting liaten
Really pleased the narrator can put on a North East accent. I can't say it is a Sunderland accent because it isn't.
The ending seemed rushed which spoilt my enjoyment

A wonderful story
I am loving the Shipyard Girls series of books ! The narration is just perfect and Janine captures the local accents perfectly. The books are addictive and I can’t wait to get onto the next. Clearly well researched and historically accurate the books introduce us to an endearing and courageous group of women characters and the challenges they face in the Sunderland shipyards and in their personal lives in the setting of the Second World War when Sunderland was the target of numerous bombing raids. I can’t recommend these books highly enough !
