About this listen
Waking up hungover in the sheep pen is the least of my problems.
The worst? A foreclosure notice for my family farm.
Scratch that. The actual worst is the woman delivering the news: my ex, who broke my heart and left me behind for the big city.
I’ve spent a decade trying to forget Lia Thorne, and now she’s the only one who can help my family dig ourselves out from our crushing debt and even stronger egos.
I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty. And if I go along with Lia’s new-fangled scheme, maybe I can win back more than my finances …
Just as long as my meddling grandma and her spoiled sheep don’t interfere.
Since You’ve Bean Gone kicks off the Farm 2 Forking crop of laugh out loud romantic comedies set on Bedd Fellows Farm.
Dig into this swoony, unputdownable second-chance romance by USA Today bestselling author Lainey Davis and buckle up for an un-baa-lievable ride.

Alastair Haynesbridge and Erin Mallon are our story tellers and boy do they tell it! Haynesbridge is Ethan, a chip on his shoulder, fearing the end of what he knows best and now his heart is racing! The voice he uses depicts each feeling Ethan has and he is spot on. Erin Mallon plays the quirky Lia giving her compassion while dealing with her own issues. She pulls out all the stops when it comes to her excitement for helping and at the same time lets her work through her life changing decisions. Loved these two and their performance.

This is only my third experience with Lainey Davis so I’m not sure if it’s always like this, but she does not shy away from #RealLife circumstances and I like it! Not only does she not shy away from making it part of the storyline, but she also doesn’t just throw it in for effect. She digs deep into the circumstance and really folds into the story so the reader can vividly “live” the story. That’s the best way I know to describe her style. Our FMC, Lia, has Crohn’s disease which is the catalyst for her and the MMC, Ethan, to have been separated since after high school when she basically ghosted him, because reasons. Without giving details on the “story” I’ll tell you that I am now very well informed on the disease but also not just informed like I would be from reading its Wikipedia page, but informed because I was drawn to the story and felt like I was “in it” and “living it” right alongside Lia.
I found this story to be emotional, heartfelt, and also very humorous! It’s an endearing second chance to get it right romance, with quirky characters and a smalltown setting that you will fall in love with immediately. I love that Lia & Ethan “aired out” the reason why Lia left like she did within the first third of the book because it gave them time to grow into friends again and then more without it seeming rushed at any point.
I’m very intrigued to see how all the stories in this series will flow from one to the other and how the siblings will all come together for each other and themselves as they navigate to their own HEA! I’ve read quite a few of these types of series and I’m always amazed at how different authors, each with their own style and voice, can come together and write a series that connects and is really cohesive. I had the absolute best time 🎧listening🎧 to this story because of course, Erin Mallon is one of my all-time faves and she is a superstar but also because Alastair Haynesbridge brought his a-game and they were fantastic together! A++ for narration!!!

Since You’ve Bean Gone is the first book in the Farm 2 Forking series. This is a second chance, small town romance. Leah and Ethan were high school sweethearts. Leah left for college and was diagnosed with Crones. Ethan has been farming his grandfather’s farm, his entire life. Now that his grandfather has passed away Ethan and his family find out that the farm is in serious debt. Leah works for the bank that might foreclose on the farm. She is sent to help avoid foreclosure. Can Leah and Ethan reconnect and find love again.
Erin Mallon and Alister Haynesbridge did a fantastic job narrating this book.

Since You’ve Bean Gone is book #1 in the multi-author Farm 2 Forking series. It features Ethan and Lia who were childhood sweethearts but had broken up after Lia ghosted Ethan and left for college and to supposedly have a better life in the city. Or so Ethan thought. It turns out she was actually diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and was scared to tell Ethan because in her mind she thought this would be too much for him and would be potentially burdening him with the care and support she would need. This miscommunication caused them to “dislike” each other for the years following. Meanwhile, Ethan stayed behind in their small town to help his grandfather run their family’s farm. Fast forward to the present day, Ethan’s grandfather has now passed, leaving their family farm in serious debt. Lia works for the farm’s bank and the bank is looking to foreclose on the farm. She is sent to help the family avoid said foreclosure. Lia and Ethan try to avoid each other at first, with tensions still running high from the last time they had seen each other. But as they spend more time together, coming up with ideas to save the farm and help raise the money to pay down the debts, they soon find themselves reconnecting. Since You’ve Bean Gone is a second chance, small-town romance that is really sweet, and really pulls on your heart’s strings. It can be read as a standalone, but how Lia, Ethan, and all his family members help save the farm is an overarching storyline that is explored throughout all 5 books within the series. I highly recommend it!
I loved the chemistry between Lia and Ethan. You could feel the tension that they had when they first reconnected, but you could also tell that underneath all that were so many unresolved feelings and things that needed talking and sorting out. They definitely needed to air out their issues. And I loved how that was dealt with at the beginning of the book (not too quickly, but also quickly enough) to leave time for them to get to know each other in the present day and become friends again before falling for each other all over again. Lainey Davis was amazing with the pacing of the story here. I also especially loved how much detail she put into explaining Crohn’s disease in the story. Even though I had heard of Crohn’s before, I am not the most knowledgeable on it. The way she was able to write about it in this book felt very real and human; it didn’t just feel like informing me of the disease in a very clinical way. It almost felt like I was being given an insight into how it affects people in their everyday lives through the character of Lia. It was very informative in a good way. Overall, this story was just so good. It was emotional, yet humorous in a way that made the story entertaining to read. I loved all the characters and the cute small-town setting.
Narrated in duet style by Erin Mallon and Alastair Haynesbridge, both were excellent at narrating this book. I loved Haynesbridge’s take on the grumpy Ethan. Erin Mallon was also outstanding in her performance as Lia. Both of their voices were superb with all the emotions needed to really portray the characters at their best and to bring the story to life.
4.5 Stars!
