About this listen

Who needs love when getting justice sounds so much sweeter…? Shae Silverstorm

Freedom is all I’ve dreamed about for the last fifteen years. When I see my chance to escape captivity, I have to take the risk. And for once, luck is on my side.

However, I have no doubt my captors are looking for me.

When I get approached by an eccentric group of misfits called MEOW Squad (don’t even ask) offering to keep me safe and help me get justice, I don’t have much choice but to accept.

The only problem? One of them has the bonkers notion that I’m his fated mate.

Fine. I’ll admit, Wolf Boy has a seriously hot surfer bod, not to mention unfairly cute furry ears and a tail. Talk about a deadly combo. But love is for suckers and fated mates aren't to be trusted. I've got proof of that. Taking down my evil father, wicked stepmonster, and cruel stepsister has to be my top priority.

But damn if Griffin isn’t starting to break through my strongest defenses though, with his puppy-dog eyes, sunshiny personality, and dog-like (pun intended) devotion to me.

Griffin McIntyre

When I find a magical gold coin straight out of Tolkien (sweet!), it tells me it’s my “Lucky Day.”

And that’s proven the moment I meet Shae because he’s my fated mate.

As a Wolfkin with empathic magic abilities, I was a disappointment to my old pack. Now, as a member of MEOW Squad, I use my powers to help those in need. And I’ve never met anyone who needs me more than Shae.

All I want is to help him heal and get the justice he deserves. Oh, and have him accept our mate bond. If I can conquer a ten-foot wave, then I can do this!

I’ll wait as long as it takes. Just like ice cream and apple pie, we’re meant to be.

4.25/5 This was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed how it’s in the wider Monsters Hollow universe (but I think it holds up well as a stand-alone); I can imagine possible more in-depth connections in future books. And I’m definitely hoping for HEAs for the rest of the MEOW squad, where we’re along for the ride. (This was definitely an entertaining, quirky crew.)

Griff is sweet, sunshiny perfection, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between him and Shae; despite the fact that Shae is grumpy and suspicious and traumatised, he’s never mean to Griff, and instead gets a lot of comfort from him. I enjoyed the MEOW team and all the banter, along with the other good people Shae meets. (And Griff’s conversations with the coin made me laugh.)

There were some fun twists I didn’t expect, and I liked that Shae’s mental health was prioritised along with his physical health. I enjoyed how Shae and Griff both valued and supported one another just as they are.

Hoping to see more of these fun characters in the future!

Listened to this as my second “reading”, and Joel did a fabulous job as always. He really brought the characters to life.

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Entertaining urban fantasy with a fun new crew

Griffin is the most pure, adorably cute, full of sunshine, golden retriever himbo surfer dude Wolfkin and I couldn’t help but fall in love with him and his “SCSS” abilities. Not going to spoil the fun for you by telling you what it means! Circumstances have the MEOW squad rescuing half siren Shae from a very dire situation and Griffin immediately recognises Shae as his mate. Shae is somewhat grumpy and full of sass and snark but together these two wonderful characters make the perfect pair, even if Shae initially is not convinced that fated mates are a thing. He is soon absorbed into the wonderful found family of misfits that make up MEOW as they embark on the serious task before them.
My heartstrings were pulled taut as Shae and Griffin revealed how they been mistreated in the past but the story telling ability of Chloe Archer and the brilliant performance by Joel Leslie also had me laughing out loud, sighing at the swoon and just wanting to scratch Griffin’s bug fluffy ears.
I loved this audiobook from start to finish and was cheerleading all the way through as Shae and Griffin bumbled their way to a hard earned HEA. There’s also plenty of very interesting side characters that have me eager for their stories to be told and I can’t wait for more in the spin off series to come.

The MEOW Squad are absolutely amazing 😻

Share and Griffin have such a journey to get to their HEA. You will have moments that tissues might be needed but overall, this is a very sweet story with just a bit of spice. I truly hope we get more of the Meow Squad.

This is my second book from this series and I absolutely love what Chloe Archer has done with the gold coin, making it basically a sentient being. Griffin may just be my favourite ever character, nothing seems to bring him down and he is all about ensuring everyone else is happy, but especially the person he discovers is his fated mate. Unfortunately, it's also someone who has just been rescued from the most awful situation.
Shae is so strong for escaping what he did. The most terrible father and step family had him basically living as a slave but now he's free to recover, under the protection of the MEOW squad (best name ever!) and the wolf kin who calls himself Shae's fated mate. However, his parents were fated and look how that turned out.
What follows is a journey of bravery, recovery and building of trust, friendship and bonds, not just between the MC's, but the group of people who come to mean so much to Shae. There are more emotional moments with reunions and discoveries of what truly happened in his past. Chloe has written an excellent story of romance, hurt and comfort, along with the found family who do all they can to protect those who need it. I cannot wait for more from this group of highly entertaining people.
Joel Leslie is one of my very favourite narrators. He is one of the best when it comes to character voices and especially getting across their emotions but what always stands out is how their personalities shine and the fun moments bring joy to both the character and reader/listener.

Fantastic story and narration!

I’ve read several books from this collection but I have to admit, this book is definitely my favourite.

I adored Griff - he was so freaking sweet and cute. Shae didn’t stand a chance against Griff’s sunshine persona.

Loved the rest of the Meow gang - I’m hoping papa bear gets his own

The narrator did a brilliant job bringing the characters to life and I really enjoyed his performance.

Absolutely brilliant

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to Joel Leslie bringing Ms. Archer's story to life.
Shae has had a hard life, when he escapes, he finds himself joining MEOW (yeah, that's another story, lol) and meeting his mate, Griffin. Of course, Shae is quite wary of others, given what he'd been through. Griffin, with his 'puppy dog' energy, is able to coax Shae into seeing that his fortune has changed for the better with his new found family.
As always, Joel Leslie has a great wealth of voices and emotions to make this a very enjoyable listen. He made almost 10 hours go by very quickly. Another great way to enjoy the story! Definitely recommend :)

Ten hours well spent!!

- shared universe
- grumpy/sunshine
- fated mates
- found family
- hurt/comfort

This is Chloe Archer's entry in the Fortune Favours the Fae multi author series, and it's an utter joy. Grumpy/sunshine is my absolute favourite trope, and add in found family and a healthy dose of righteous revenge and you have a recipe for a wonderful story. I actually don't think I can count all the tropes and that's a wonderful thing, it really fits for this book. MEOW (yes really 😂) is wonderful, so full of great side characters that I really want to visit with again and let them all find their HEA. However, this is Shae and Griffin's story.

Shae has been through a lot when we first meet him, traumatised and beaten down by life and then thrown straight into meeting his fated mate, it's a lot. Thankfully Griffin is biggest, sunshiniest, ball of joy ever and just exactly what Shae needs, even if he fights it all the way. But you can't fight Griff and those puppy dog eyes, apparently. Heck, I couldn't do it through the pages of the book so Shae had no choice but to fall for him. There are dark themes here, it's not all sunshine but Griff is so perfect for Shae and so patient and right, it never feels like too much. I laughed with them, I maybe cried a little (although I will never admit that!) and ultimately cheered when Shae got his revenge and his HEA. Nobody deserves it more and these two were just an utter joy to read. I can't wait for more from MEOW.

The above was my review for the kindle edition, but stands for the audio too, with the addition of the great narration by Joel Leslie, who really brings MEOW Squad to life in the best way. The narration is just the icing on the cake, and I really enjoyed it.

I love that whatever the story, one of the characters always reminds me of Chloe Archer as a person. I think you would have to see one of Chloe’s interviews to understand how effortlessly positive she always seems to be, and this is who Griffin reminds me of in this story.

I really love a grumpy / sunshine style story and Shae (for good reason) is definitely the colder, more closed off character at the beginning, so it was lovely to listen to the story and over time hear how he warms to Griffin and his himbo personality.

As always, I love the pop culture references that always pop up in Chloe’s writing and this story was no different. A really easy and enjoyable listen, with some good narration - Joel Leslie is always really easy to listen to.

A different story, but still Chloe’s signature style

I love Joel's narration and Chloe Archer is a one click for me so put them together and you have pure nirvana! I love this story (hoping it's the start of a series hint hint) and the characters of Griffin (pure labrador bless him) and Shae (tortured soul) are magic together although they do have a bit of a journey to get there. Joel's narration is spot on, as always. Thoroughly enjoyable and will definitely relisten to this regularly.

Brilliant story & narrator!

I found this book as part of the fortune favours the fae series and was my first from this amazing author.

Despite it dealing with some very tough issues (check cw / tw if you need to) for me it’s mostly about recovering afterwards (and the bad guys getting their comeuppance) and I found the lightness in the book meant the dark was manageable (I am not a fan of dark, heavy angst books but this was well done imo).

A true grumpy/sunshine HEA and I can’t wait for more from MEOW squad (complete with awful pun jokes in group text threads).

The narration by Joel Leslie was superb and even with a large cast of characters I always felt I knew who was talking.

Delightful new world
