About this listen
New York Times best-selling author Mary Balogh's new Wescott series continues as a young woman deals with her father's death and a reversal of fortune.
With her parents' marriage declared bigamous, Camille Westcott is now illegitimate and without a title. Looking to eschew the trappings of her old life, she leaves London to teach at the Bath orphanage where her newly discovered half sister lived. But even as she settles in, she must sit for a portrait commissioned by her grandmother and endure an artist who riles her every nerve. An art teacher at the orphanage that was once his home, Joel Cunningham has been hired to paint the portrait of the haughty new teacher. But as Camille poses for Joel, their mutual contempt soon turns to desire. And it is only the bond between them that will allow them to weather the rough storm that lies ahead.
©2017 Mary Balogh (P)2017 Recorded BooksI absolutely adore the interactions with children in the orphanage, art references, innovative lessons, 8nternal struggles of both the MCs and their journey.

A really enjoyable book. This the second one that I have 'read' on Audible, about the Westcott family. Good story and brilliant performance by Rosalyn Landor.
A really enjoyable book.

I intensely disliked Camille in the first Wescott book and couldn’t see how her character could be redeemed
But Mary Balogh did it!
I loved the end of the book and how much of a new character Camille became.
Not even Anna, an orphan herself had thought of adopting other orphans when her fortunes changed for the better.
Well done to Mary Balogh!
Unlikeable heroine transformed

I wasn’t wrong. Camille is not an endearing character, a polar opposite to Anna her half sister (& actually her own full sister Amelia? I can’t remember her name).
However, there were some interesting sub stories within this tale and some worthy characters to embrace, enjoy and extort. I ended up being pleasantly surprised by this, although it may not be among my favourites of the series, time will tell.
Pleasantly Surprised
