About this listen
On Orion, becoming king is easy… just climb a tower filled with monsters and don't die.
Reborn in a crypt, Nick was given an ancient heritage and an important task: to become king, and make the Archaens rise again.
Nick was now the last one, and he would need to find allies by forming Soul Pacts with both followers and wives. With the power of the Soul Knight class, he would have to use both paladin and necromancer magics to conquer the tower and defeat his enemies.
But not all was right, in or outside the tower. A bandit warlord had taken control of the city of Havendale, and a deathly Trial within the tower lurks, barring Nick from collecting his Heritage.
Will Nick take his first step toward Eternity and claim his kingdom, or will he fall before his journey begins?
Contains: LitRPG/Cultivation System, Tower Climbing, Kingdom Building, and loveable beastfolk girls with dating and romance.

excellent story and narration
very good overall - great narration and world building that sometimes gets lost in the crunchy details and leaves you wondering if it contradicts only to show that it is consistent. the mechanics are broad but without number explanations you're never quite sure how this blend of cultivation and litrpg advances. however that is forgotten as the plot draws you in and escalated rapidly. the author plays with the tropes of adventure games, starting with rat slaying and then doing a full dungeon crawl AND subversive takes on the orcs Vs humans.
really great setup and a slow burn for the romances - can't wait to see how it expands with the extras dangled at the end about new mechanics and the wider world!

Lower expections and maybe you will like it?
It doesnt make me happy to write a negative review, especially since at the current time of posting it will be the only written review available on audible, but man i did not enjoy myself and i think maybe i feel this way because of how much overwelming praise this book is recieving, be it on goodreads or certain subreddits or even just audible having all 5 stars before now. I went in expecting at minimum a good time but hoping for something great. instead i found what i consider to be extremely cringe worthy flirting from the MC, the most unnatural sounding conversations and boring fight scenes. the little of the world building i saw before quitting i actually enjoyed however.
Honestly there are two major things that made it so i could only finish 5 hours of this book:
1. Being the Narration by Evan, I assume thats a me issue though since it seems he is a successful narrator after i did a bit of browsing however i just hated his delivery of damn near every single line. It always felt unnatural be it when hes serious, joking or flirting, it always sounded wrong. Plus the quality of his recording to me seems such a lower quality compared to Alyssa Poon (who is perfect 10/10 btw, shes amazing) it really stood out when i would hear good quality audio then instantly hear bad quality audio. Im not some audiophile in anyway, yet even it got to me.
2. Pretty much every time the MC Nick would say anything, i'd either cringe or think to myself "that's not how people talk" and some of his actions genuinely made me angry. For example the moment during his first fight along side with the racoon girl he is constantly flirting or joking about with this woman he only met like an hour ago. Kya (i think thats how you spell her name?) rightly, gets annoyed with his dumb joking around during a literal life and death situation and tells Nick to be serious ffs. 30 seconds later Kya is about to be killed, MC obviously comes in to save the day and as he does he has the audacity to say (from memory) "I'm always serious when it counts" like we JUST saw you are not that. Quickest way to write an unlikeable MC in my opinion is make him annoy characters from the beginning and in turn, annoy the reader/listener.
OR be it the moment when he decides to share his Heritage quest with Kya, he explains in the most awkward way that he doesnt like people but likes her because her soul shows shes a good person. This could normally work, however again it just doesn't sound natural the way its written, it feels soooo awkward and forced, at no point did it feel sincere. And then lastly every time hes flirting with the sheep girl sister (forgot her name already) again wow its so cringey and forced. it was at the belle of the ball flirting scene where i had to literally stop listening for a moment. So. Bad. So. Cringey.
It sucks to write a negative review, it really does, especially when the author has a smaller audience. Hopefully im an outlier and everybody else enjoys there time. But yikes. I sure didn't.
