Janice Cole Hopkins has finished her Cactus Creek series with a bang! This book features two amazing couples. Joanna comes to Cactus Creek. A spitfire, she is a woman with her own mind. When she takes a liking to Grayson Fox though, she finds a real challenge. This man has been through a lot, Between the untimely death of his parents and the difficulty of being half Indian, he isn't looking for love. But sometimes it comes looking for him! This is a long time coming too, years in the making and a beautiful romance. Adele lost her husband, and has no interest in remarrying. After the abuse she had taken, she is running her own land with the help of her slaves. When she happens upon a Eli injured by a bear trap, they take him in only to find out he is the slave of the plantation next door and the suitor who will not let her alone. Eli was once free, but circumstances have held him where he is. Until now that is. Two couples, both looking to God for guidance. Should the color of their skin make a difference? Will the people ever see them for the love they have for each other? Cactus Creek is a town packed with love. With all the wonderful couples we have met, this town is the right place to settle down, right? Or will trouble come and take it all away? Give this a listen! You too will have a heart filled with warmth, faith and love.

Douglas Birk and Jennifer Groberg give a wonderful duet performance of this final story. It's got all the voices I have come to know from previous books and includes the new ones that I have come to love. Each one is strategically chosen and fits the people perfectly. I love the inflections and nuances these two use to bring out every aspect of the story and made for a fantastic listen.

I was enjoying the story when, all of a sudden, the location, character, and time changed. At first, I thought there was a mixup in the editing of this audio book. I went to the description and the chapters and realized these two different stories would merge later.
I wish there was a better way to introduce the second set of characters, though. I was really confused. Other than that transition, I loved the story!!!!
One romance is between a white woman and a man with Native American heritage, and another love story is between a white woman and a free black man who was taken as a slave during the Civil War. Their stories converge in Cactus Creek, where they all find solidarity and peace in the (mostly) Christian community who is learning more about love, acceptance, and deep friendship.
While I'm not particularly fond of some of the men's voices because they're whiny, this narrator does a great job in his cadence and consistently!
