Summary

Bradley Warren had lost something very valuable, something that belonged to someone else: a rare 13th-century Japanese manuscript called the Hagakure.

Everything PI Elvis Cole knew about Japanese culture he'd learned from reading Shogun, but he knew a lot of crooks - and what he didn't know, his sidekick Joe Pike did.

Together, Cole and Pike begin their search in L.A.'s Little Tokyo, the nest of the notorious Japanese mafia, the Yakuza - and find themselves caught up in a white-knuckled adventure filled with madness, murder, and sexual obsession. Just another day's work for Elvis Cole....

High drama combined with humour and humanity.

An Excellent fast paced crime drama, the modern day Mickey Spillane. Crais just gets better and better. An entertaining read.

An old favourite of mine.

I stumbled across this book a decade ago and couldn't out it down until it had finished. I forgot all about the title and author until the other day when I found it here. the suspense and story are wonderfully composed and is without a doubt a must read.

Japanese mafia and more....

in 2017 this story is a little old fashioned with the interaction between some of the characters really poor (and for a book published in 1989, passing mentions of Donald Trump, cringe worthy)

It is a book of its time and as the second in a long series worth reading to continue the timeline of the characters.

Was it ghost written?

Didn’t read like any other crais book I’ve read, full of 80s cliches and very basic, weak story and zero suspense.
