Wonderful Audio Version of my Favourite TNG Book

This has been my favourite Star Trek TNG book since I was 11 years old and discovered I loved Star Trek. Peter David is one of my favourite Star Trek authors, and the way he intertwines Troi and Riker's relationship with alternate realities is pure skill. The pace of the writing never falters, even in this abridged version of the book. Shame it wasn't longer. The sound affects really add atmosphere to an already great narration.

Enjoyable

I did not think Jonathan Frakes was a really good reader until I remembered to adjust the speed from 0,9 up to normal :D
This book is enjoyable, anyway, not because of his performance which was okay, but nothing of a special treat; and not because of the storyline itself - I am not a huge fan of tampering-with-time plots, but there were intricate, subtle and reflective stories in TNG - "Parallels" for example, maybe not a famous hit but memorable to me. "Imzadi" does not have much style or insight to talk about. But it still gives the nostalgic sense of coming home, as it always should be with tie-in books (especially if you have just finished watching TNG for the first time and do not really want to be critical). Perhaps a number of alternate homes, unbreakable and unmortgageable to carry in our hearts, is the main thing that TV shows can give us.
With that, I understand Peter David wasn't ever involved in writing scripts for the series, although his novelizations were appraised. I should say that more than once the characters sounded different from how I remember them (Frakes's voicing unfortunately did not help). Nonetheless, it was nice to let Data, of all the crew, play his own part in the story and get, as well as the fourth pip to his collar, yet another touch of humanity to his character.

Poor recording quality

No problem with the performance or story - though an unabridged version would have been more enlightening.

The quality however is lacking, often echoes can be heard and loud hisses. I have this on Cassette which has better quality - still conveniently this version is on my phone 😄

Star Trek

Jonathan Frakes does a fair impression of Captain Picard. I'm hooked on these Audio books now

Still have this on cassette tape...

... and still brings a tear to my eye. Always loved the relationship between these two and the fact there was so much depth there which was hinted at on screen. I love a happy ending and always imagined theirs!

Really great book if you like star trek.

I loved this book. The sound recording is a bit fuzzy and it's obviously an old book but if you like the Deanna and Riker story in the TV series you'll love this. It fills in lots of the gaps. There is a big sci fi element to the book but it is fundamentally a love story so some people might not like it for that. Personally I thought it was brilliant and listened to it pretty much in one go.

Who wrote this rubbish??

This features worst writing I have come across since the last self-published kindle disaster I accidentally downloaded! Trite, cliched rubbish with tragic metaphors and ludicrously unrealistic dialogue.

This story was the abridged version of the novel. The sound effects and dramatic reading proved to be quite entertaining and was well recevied.

Ruined

I’ve read this - it’s one of my favourite next gen stories. This version is very harshly chopped making the story really hard to follow.

The sound effects are distracting and drown out Frakes. Really really disappointed and will be requesting a refund
