About this listen
Shaun (aka MC Growls) is ready to drop his best bars and smash the competition at Raptology. That way, he's convinced Tanisha, his crush, will finally give him a chance.
But when a livestream practice goes epically wrong, Growls's dirty laundry is literally exposed. He's finally achieved his dreams of going viral - not in the good way.
Now Tanisha won't look at him, he's the joke of the school and there's no way he can show his face at the competition. Will he ever catch a break?
Then a new girl on the block appears who might be just the friend Growls needs. Especially when she points out that Raptology could be the answer to his problems after all. . .
STEP UP TO THE MIC! It's MC Growls and he's ready for this. He's steady for this. It's comeback season and they call him comeback king for a reason.©2023 Nathanael Lessore (P)2023 Bonnier Books UK

Hilarious story and brilliant audiobook narration
One of my favourite books ever even on the first listen.
I loved the main and central character. He was (arguably) neurodiverse) and very relatable.
From early on he was really heartwarming and kind even in his many mishaps.
I loved the other characters too, like Karen who sees the goodness in him and Mr Ricks who tries to educate him on rap history and encourage him to go the right direction with his future rap plans.
I really appreciated some of the themes in the book, including poverty awareness, disability awareness, young carers, drunk drivers, and trying to better yourself when you’re told by society that you don’t meet the standards for what is acceptable for success.
Fantastic first book by Nathanael Lessore and I’m looking forward to seeing if this will be picked up as a series or movie.
I also really enjoyed the narration in the audiobook.

Brilliant and hilarious
Absolutely loved it. The voice was so warm and funny, and there was so much heart in the book as well. Brilliant narration from Kuda Dutiro Robinson, too.

Relatable
I liked the use of language. I can see many young people being able to read this. It covered many themes and it was both sad and funny. Fantastic piece of writing.

Phenomenal. Funny, catchy and emotional
Fantastic book and so well narrated. One of the best audiobooks I’ve had on audible in a looong time. It tells a tale of a boy juggling poverty, school and girl trouble while becoming infamous on social media for the wrong reasons. MC Growls and his tribe of friends and mentors had me hooked. Just brilliant.

Funny, emotional ,heartwarming and Lit!
Growls' endearing character shines through from the beginning. His habit of mixing up his similes and his metaphors made me snort with laughter in a knowing way. This story covers many different topics and emotions that teenagers go through and can relate to.
The narrator does a wonderful job bringing the characters and story to life.
