Summary

A stone cold firefighter, lifelong secrets, and the vivacious woman who won’t give up.

Abi Newell is feisty, fun, beautiful, and has date offers every night of the week. She gave her heart away to Stone Ryland when they were teenagers and that was the stupidest decision of her life. Though Stone is the perfect fit for her - kind, patient, and steady - he’s also shut himself off to everyone, including her. She’s accomplished best-friend status with her dream man, but winning his heart may be a hopeless quest.

Stone has been deemed Stone Cold by his firefighting buddies for good reason - he has the remarkable ability to put his feelings on the shelf while dispassionately dealing with the situation at hand. Too bad Stone’s buddies don’t know the truth. A truth Stone will fight tooth and nail to keep hidden. Abi is his one weakness, but Stone can’t let anyone into his heart, or his well-protected secrets will be discovered and destroy not only Abi, but his deceased wife’s memory as well.

Can Abi break through the ice surrounding Stone Cold’s heart, or will she be forced to give up on her lifelong love?

Teddy Hamilton cannot save this book

Honestly I hated this book from the start. At only 3 hours I couldn't get to the end.

The two main characters had lied to each other for 7 years. For no apparent reason that I could discern other than they both seemed to have the mentality of a 12-year-old.

The writing was dreadful. We were told the heroine would be happy with a fat man with a hairy back. Would she ever! She then went on and on about how handsome the hero was. The tropes were so obvious and painful. At one point we were told she had girlish desires. What the hell are these? Are there also boyish desires? And the heroine seemed to be completely unaware that unrequited love for 7 years is not and never will be a friendship.

And what's with the off of? As in he had a day off of work. I know 12-year-olds who wouldn't dream of writing like this. And where are the editors?

Teddy Hamilton cannot save this book. It's going straight back along with anything else by this author. At least it was free.

Quick easy listen

A nice story, nothing ground breaking but not awful either. The narrator was great.
