Fabulous Book!

Have you ever felt like you’re going crazy in a close personal relationship on account of your kindness, care and vulnerability being weaponised against you in unpredictable torrents of abuse being directed against you by the person who appears to have the emotional maturity of a toddler? Their perfectionist dissection of your faults hurled at you from behind a wall of anger that repels any right of reply?
If so, then my sincere wish is you will feel as I did reading this book, with wells of hope rising drinking in the truths dripping from every page of this deeply insightful, yet empathic book.
Yes, the author’s primary empathy is directed towards the caregiver since such individuals are her target readership. Yet the book also fosters understanding of the deep feelings of emptiness, inabiiity to regulate emotions, thought instability, low self esteem - even suicidal thoughts - and dissociation fantasies experienced by sufferers of BPD/NPD. Sadly such people are terribly ill and this book is all about not allowing your life to be defined by the volatile outbursts that form part of this devastating illness.
A must read for all those hurt, confused, lonely, angry or just feeling plain lost being around someone suffering from BPD/NPD.

A must read for carers

This is the book I wish I’d read 10 years ago. I especially appreciated the level of directness used and that is so necessary when dealing with people caught in a cycle where they may feel powerless.

Absolutely phenomenal. Finally a book that understands how I am feeling.

This book is mind blowing. I have read so many books on Borderline personality disorder and alcoholism and addiction, trying to piece together my role in this whole situation I’ve been in with someone who suffers from all of these things. And this one is absolutely bang on the money. This is the exact dilemma I am in. It’s called the ‘caretaker’ role, which I feel even uncomfortable saying that word. But this is it. This is why. I have struggled so much with how to explain to myself let alone anyone else why I am where I am, and this is it. Thank you. Thank you thank you. I don’t generally write reviews and I am only on chapter 4, but this is a must read for anyone who is struggling with how and why they are where they are and is looking for some explanation. And now I am looking forward to hearing the rest and see what advice is going to be given. Because I am at a total loss right now as to how to deal with everything. But I feel understood. That’s how this book makes me feel. Understood. And for that I am grateful. Just to be understood. 🙏🏼

Probably a very good book

I had to stop listening to what could be a very good book because I couldn’t stand to listen to the monotone drone of the narrator, it was almost robotic, such a shame, perhaps I’ll buy the kindle version.
