About this listen
From Hugo and Dragon Award finalist David VanDyke, and millions-selling science-fiction legend and Dragon finalist B.V. Larson, comes book five in the epic military space opera adventure saga!
It’s been five years since the end of the Hive Wars. Straker has handed over the burden of governing the Earthan Republic to civil authorities.
This should be a happy time, as Straker and his most loyal soldiers retire to a planet and step off the galactic stage. Unfortunately, authoritarian forces within the Earthan Republic are still simmering with rage at his victory. Rumors reach Straker of a growing new Republic Fleet manned by state loyalists. Planets begin to fall under their influence and go dark. Even in retirement, they see Straker’s Breakers as a threat.
Fearing he may have to move again in the name of freedom and the people, Straker begins to train and plan. Will they dare to come for him? His battlesuiters have formed families and planted roots on Culloden. What of their children and stories of neighboring worlds reverting to dictatorships?
Straker’s Breakers prepare to fight again, alone and without support, in this new novel of military science fiction by David VanDyke and B. V. Larson.
This is the fifth book in the Galactic Liberation series. Look for book number one, Starship Liberator, if you’re new to this expanding universe.

A fantastic entry into an already fantastic series
Straker's Breakers I thought I'd give some feedback.
Firstly, I love the direction with the novel, you took it some place new moving away from the Republic into a new setting, whilst allowing the Republic and human worlds to come back into the story arc. I think this was great and gave a fresh lease of life to the novel.
The new characters were very well done, I really enjoyed their personalities and think they will bring a lot to the stories going forward.
The plot was amazingly thought out and I look forward to hearing more about their new role as mercenaries. I do like how you kept their moral compass in check with the two operations they took.
My only negative is this story felt a lot shorter than the others. However I feel it did conclude in a natural point for the next novel.
Having listened on Audible as with the others in the series, Mark Boyett is just amazing and wonderful.
Thanks, I am one happy fan.

No Rest for the Wicked!
The Hive Wars are but a memory now and Derek Straker has all but retired from government and handed over to the civil authorities. Semi-retirement for him, his family and his soldiers is just the medicine they all need. Well, that was the plan. However, power hungry politicians will always feel unsafe when a hero is in the back of peoples' minds.
Here starts a new chapter in all of their lives as they flee beyond the yoke of the Earthen Republic. However, it is not long before they are all put in danger once more and this time the only back-up they have is themselves.
I always love listening to these books, mainly because of the narrator, Mark Boyett. He is a brilliant narrator and really carries this series.

Gound based battles with simple outcomes
The story seems an extension after the previous books final battle. The two set piece battles of people's never mentioned upto now, are more ground based this time. the enemies never get a chance to communicate which makes battles so much simpler to write about. the use of slave soldiers and first use nuclear bombs, doesn't make them an honourable bunch either. The star and sidekick alien have some depth, but everyone else, particularly the women are one dimensional.
