About this listen

Twenty years ago little Brian Arlington was kidnapped from his family's Long Island estate and was never seen again. The trail went cold, but investigative journalist Griff Hadley has always thought there was more to the story - much more. When the Arlingtons' patriarch invites him to stay at their estate to research his true crime book, Griff can't say no. It's the story of a lifetime. But not everyone is happy about Griff's presence. Relatives and staff alike regard him coldly, including Pierce Mather, the Arlingtons' attractive lawyer, who is more than a little wary of Griff's motives. When a stranger shows up claiming to be the long-lost Brian, Griff and Pierce are united in their suspicions. Startled to have found an ally in the buttoned-up lawyer, Griff soon realizes it's hard to keep a professional distance. Even in the midst of a groundbreaking investigation, even in the face of a shocking family secret....

Well plotted mystery

An Agatha Christie style mystery with an outsider coming in to a wealthy family, and the clues all nicely hidden in the detail of the plot. A real pleasure.

Beautiful

It's taken a second reading of this book to make me appreciate how very good it is. The writing is wonderful and the narration is perfect. Well plotted mystery and romance, and engaging characters. I only wish it was longer because I didn't want it to end.

Great mystery story

Another fantastic story from Josh Lanyon with well drawn characters and a central mystery that, although I worked it out before the denouement, was still a pleasure to listen to it as it unfolded.
The narration was very good; there were a few instances where I had trouble differentiating between Griff and Pierce but overall it was very good & I didn't want to have to stop listening to go and do other things.

Money is thicker than blood

Intense drama, fabulously narrated, in true JL form, a slow start building to a full-on crescendo finish.

What I love about JL's books is that you get real MCs you can like and enjoy in a real plot/adventure: it is not a shoddy tapestry to showcase pure porn.

JL is a true wordsmith, who crafts wonderful tales.
