 London, June 1940. When the body of silent screen star Mabel Morgan is found impaled on railings, the coroner rules her death as suicide, but DI Ted Stratton of CID is not convinced.

As he starts asking questions, it becomes clear that Morgan's fatal fall may have been the work of one of Soho's most notorious gangsters. When Stratton's path crosses with MI5 agent Diana Calthrop, they uncover a criminal network and a secretive pro-Fascist organisation.

It soon becomes clear that the intrigues of the Secret Service are alarmingly similar to the machinations of war-torn London's underworld.

Loved the way this evoked values from that era. Brilliant performances by both Sean Barrett and Anna Bentinck. Comforting Like an audio version of Midsummer Murders. No clever tricks or twists. Just good old fashioned English detective fiction

What made the experience of listening to Stratton's War the most enjoyable?

This book was wonderful. It really brought to life London during this period. The characters were all believable and it was a good story with lots of twists and turns. Really fun and enjoyable. Narrators are both terrific and enhanced my enjoyment of the book.

Laura Wilson's website indicates that Ted Stratton is going to be around for some time. I for one am very pleased about that as I found this book and the follow up 'An Empty Death'very absorbing. Unfortunately I read them the wrong way round!

But can recommend them as a jolly good read, (to use a term from the era!)

Excellent listen. I was not sure about the two narrators (I've had this before and hated it) but it really works on this listen. Readers are excellent, story is great - highly recommend this as a listen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book ? except for the ending. I wasn?t expecting that everything should be resolved or the final pages would be electrifying but I did expect there to be some sort of conclusion. Instead the story seemed to just fizzle out. I had been absorbed by the portrayal of London during the blitz. The male/female narration was refreshing. I looked forward to listening to each instalment ? and then suddenly the story just stopped. A potentially 5 star novel ends up as a 3 in the space of a few pages.

Was very pleased to find this new (to me) series for 2 reasons.
Love Sean Barratt's narration ( not quite so keen on Anna Bentick's) and enjoyed the story as well.
Found the historical aspects really interesting.
Not quite a procedural detective story which is my usual favourite, and thought some of the story lines were drawn out far too long but generally really enjoyed this tale.
Would recommend it and have already bought the second on the series

Excellent story and narration. The narrators made you feel like you were in London during WW2 and all that this entailed. The story was engaging from the first and I couldn't stop reading.

Once again Det Stratton is fantastic in this book. I was uncertain at first about having 2 readers but it realy added to the listening pleasure.

I do hope there will be a third book. Read these out of order but did not effect the storyline in anyway
