About this listen

The fourth book in the epic and bestselling series that has gripped millions.

A hero will be forged from this broken land.

As seen on Netflix and BBC around the world.

The year is 885, and England is at peace, divided between the Danish kingdom to the north and Alfred's kingdom of Wessex in the south. But trouble stirs, a dead man has risen and new Vikings have arrived to occupy London.

It is a dangerous time, and it falls to Uhtred, half Saxon, half Dane, a man feared and respected the length and breadth of Britain, to expel the Viking raiders and take control of London for Alfred. His uncertain loyalties must now decide England's future.

A gripping tale of love, rivalry and violence, Sword Song tells the story of England's making.

loved it, twist and turns at every step, lots of blood, and quite some tender moments.

It's very worth listening to the first four books in this series - they are truly excellent and the narration is superb. Unfortunately, I had to give book 5 back - the change of narrator did not work for me at all. That said even with knowing that (and I was not canny enough to read the review beforehand), I am still very glad that I listened to the first four. Very enjoyable.

Loved the first four books - gave book 5 back

Again, compulsive listening for Uhtred's story! more blood, guts and gory battles, interwoven with historical fact.

more viking adventures...

Brilliant series so far, sadly cannot continue listening to this as the new narrator for book five is dreadful. Why on earth did they change narrator Jonathon Keeble is terrific. The new narrator is boring, sounds like he is reading a shopping list.

Only good to this point

Excellent

I found that the narrator was very good at bringing the story of Utred to life, seeming to take on this character as though retelling his own life. I found that when listening to certain parts I had to wait to hear the end of a particular part due to the way the narrator was making the story come to life.

Enjoying the series
