About this listen

My new neighbor happens to be the grumpiest billionaire in Whispers, but his gravelly voice and golden brown eyes make this city girl weak at the knees.

When my life imploded and I lost my job and my fiancé in a matter of weeks, I didn’t know what my next step should be. Then I received an inheritance that would change my life forever. Moving to a small town and renovating the old farmhouse was a step in the right direction. But bickering with my startling good looking, yet much older neighbor was not part of my plan.

Tanner Whiteman owns the largest whiskey distillery in the country, and now he wants my land. It’s the only thing that I have to my name and there is no way I am letting him take it. It is clear I am not cut out for country life and Tanner has no trouble pointing that out. Although as his eyes linger a little longer and his words take new meaning, even the massive age gap is not enough to stop us.

But something does. Something vicious. Something unexpected. And not even the local billionaire knows what is coming.

My favourite book from Samantha Skye to date, I mean what’s not to love about an overprotective, grumpy silver fox of a hero like Tanner Whiteman with a penchant for calling his woman ‘baby girl!?’ I’m not a huge fan of age gap romances as a rule especially when the gap is large enough that the hero has children older than the heroine, well that usually makes it a straight up no for me but I’m so glad I went against my own rule for this book. Even though Tanner’s son is older than Victoria, nothing felt the slightest bit sleazy about their relationship, they just felt right together and, after a couple of chapters I didn’t even notice the gap and really it wasn’t relevant to the story. Tanner obviously looked after himself and didn’t come across as a man in his fifties while despite Victoria’s love of all things pink, she seemed more mature than her years, perhaps because she’d grown up in a one parent family but age was definitely just a number when it came to both characters. The tension and chemistry between them was palpable right from the start even when they were at odds and Victoria believed he was only after the land she’d recently inherited. Their story itself, told from dual points of view, was well written and engaging, setting a fast pace with a liberal sprinkling of suspense as a series of apparent accidents befell Victoria until things got to a stage where it was obvious there was something more underhand going on and with several suspects to choose from, this allowed for Tanner’s protective streak to come into play before reaching a suitably dramatic climax and with several intriguing secondary characters, I’m looking forward to revisiting the quaint town of Whispers sooner rather than later.

The dual narration from Sean Masters and Victoria Connolly for this audiobook was inspired casting, both being exceptional performers. They brought all the heat of the story to their performances and bringing this book to life, giving me all the feels especially Sean, who with two small words ‘baby girl’ has managed to overshadow Shane East, my long-time favourite narrator and push him into second place in my affections

I love audiobooks with dual narration and this one went that extra step with complete separation between the male/female parts, as a listener I have to say it really did make a difference.

Perfect casting for the characters
