CBT & DBT: A powerful duo for teenagers!
Anyone who remembers teenage years ... no matter how popular or unpopular you were, how many activities you did, what your grades were like, let alone your home life, etc ... it's a time with plenty of challenges and changes.
All of which can lead to anxiety. Some teens experience it worse than others. I don't have much to say about the others, but I know I went through a lot. I relate with the author in the introduction, feeling performance anxiety, though my aspirations were different. And I am grateful the author chose to write this book from experiences and great learning.
I really appreciated all the windows the author gave for the listener to relate. There are a lot of ways anxiety happens, and different ways it affects different parts of us in different people.
And of course, the tools! My goodness. If I'd had these in high school ... I'd be much better off. The practice around breathing, even, would have been revolutionary. Tolerating high emotions without needing so much external regulation... would've been awesome!
I'm thankful for those years. I'm thankful for this book being out there to help teens. Get the book, teen or not. Go help some people and help yourself help people.
