About this listen

A Neverending Race to Survive the Worst of Nature and Mankind. This Is the Alt Apocalypse.

The Alt Apocalypse is the ground-breaking, genre-bending series from Tom Abrahams. It explores survival under the most extreme circumstances, but with a twist (and no cliff-hangers). This series, which can be listened to in any order, features the same core characters in each complete story. But every book dunks them into a new, alternate apocalypse; a nuclear holocaust, an earthquake, a flood, a wildfire, a hurricane, a plague, and even zombies.

Different heroes will emerge in each novel. Different characters will survive and perish. Your favorite character dies in one book? He or she will be back in the next. In the end, you'll unwind the loose thread that connects every character and every stand-alone story.

This collection includes all five full-length novels in the series: Ash, LIT, TORRENT, AFFLICTION, and POX.

An interesting and generally enjoyable series

The Alt Apocalypse series is a pretty interesting one in its idea: a cast of characters that experience different apocalypse events in each novel, and each is stand-alone in separate universes. This really appealed to me, being able to follow familiar characters and seeing them in different circumstances each time. And each one was interesting and the story was generally good, though nothing new or particularly stand-out, if I'm honest.

Abrahams notes in the synopsis that each book is designed to be stand-alone, and the series can be read in any order. This very well may have been the intention when the first couple of books were written and released, but I can't agree with that statement when it comes to all of them. The last two, particularly, need to be read in order, and after the first three. The whole premise could have worked better if either the books had been kept entirely separate, or if the over-arching thread was present from book one.

All-in-all here are some good books and easy to listen to. Kevin Pierce did a fantastic job at narrating them - I'd unlikely have pushed through to the end of the series as quickly as I did if it wasn't for his narration.

Boring

Maybe I’m being harsh, however I think the stories would be better made longer. This would allow for more depth, description etc, I’m not a writer, therefore maybe I’m harsh! Try and see what you think????
