About this listen
Collected here are the first four books of the eight books, best-selling epic Adrian's Undead Diary.
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived.
Book One: Dark Recollections: Beheading a zombie isn't easy in a world where you're more afraid of the living than the dead. Adrian Ring's simple life is thrown into chaos when the world is ripped apart by a plague of undead and legions of desperate survivors. Retreating to Auburn Lake Prep Academy, Adrian attempts to rescue friends and family on the way while dancing around his impending insanity over who and what he left behind, and evading maniac survivors. He saves his cat Otis, but shoots his mom. Pretty , all things considered. Of course, his sanity takes a hit as a result.
Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal", and through short stories that entwine with his tales that bring forth dark visions of a world being eaten alive by an unimaginable evil.
AUD is an eight part epic about a solitary, guilt stricken man that didn't think he deserved to live, but realizes very soon that he survived, and suffered for a reason.
This collection contains Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, and The Failed Coward, four full-length novels following the end of the world as witnessed by Adrian Ring.

Different
Must admit I was not really into this at the beginning, I could’ t imagine a “diary” being that interesting but glad I stuck with it cos there is a lot more to it than just a diary, I feel as though I have gotten to know the characters now and went on to thoroughly enjoy it.

All time favourite zombie book!
This is my second time listening to Adrian's undead diary and I loved it as much as the first time around. A nice mix of Adrian's day to day survival story (first person) interspersed with other intertwining survivor stories (third person). Absolutely fantastic! "Otis is my homeboy"

great story and good value in respect to the length.
Sometimes it felt like the wrong voice for the type of main character, felt like the wrong fit so it was just someone reading a story.

A great Z survival story to sink your teeth into!
I discovered this series on a fb group called The Zombie Pen (check it out BTW, everything zombie and apocalypse related to fill your needs), as it was listed for free on audible for a limited time. I decided to give it a go and man am I happy I did.
I found it hard to get into in the start, only because I'd never read or listened to a book written in a diary format before, but it didn't take long to get hooked. The early days of the fall of humanity are portrayed very well. The detail in description is impressive and meaty (pun intended), and you can really start to picture in your head the inventory and surroundings of the book.
Adrian is a no nonsense, take no shit kind of guy. He can be funny, kind, aggressive and downright ignorant at times, but it's all very relatable. He knew some sh!t right from the beginning, and made no stops to pulling off his plan for survival.
I highly recommend giving this omnibus a try, it may seem daunting being around the 40hr mark, but trust me, the time flies, especially if you listen as you work, walk and drive. It's a great book to have on while you do something else that doesn't require full focus, not that this book isn't stocked with information and fun, it is, it's loaded in fact, but it's written in a way that you can absorb the words being read to you while managing to do something else at the same time.
Easy to listen to zombie survival fun and gore. If you like the genre, or want to try it out, look no further.
Now if you'll excuse me I must go and begin book 5....
5/5.
Gavin

Best credit I have ever spent
Please refer to the headline of this review. Just staggeringly well read and written take on the genre. A world that feels incredibly real. A main character that is flawed but you’re on his side. And finally I love the little glimpse we get of the origins story which is particularly unique and beautifully written.

Excellent
Just what I needed now that I’ve finished Mountain Man. Excellent story and performance. Different ways of telling the story but similar in so many ways (in a good sense).

Brilliantly narrated
This is such a good zombie novel. It’s funny and sad and scary and so well read. This is the second time I’ve listened to it and it won’t be my last. Could do with a bit less gun talk but that’s all I can say that’s not brilliant.

pulls you in!
I love zombie books that focus mainly on survival rather than fighting other people all the time. these books have got a good ratio of just trying to survive, and clashing with others. hooked me right in, and can't wait to get started on the next book!
