About this listen

Bigger. Badder. The whole disaster so far in one volume.

Warren is a work-obsessed journalist living in Central London. Quite happy to live out his monotone life, each day resembles the next until the fateful day he encounters an octogenarian zombie shambling down the middle of the road.

Great Bitten: The First Clusterf*ck combines the first three books of the darkly humorous zombie series by UK author Dawn Peers. Loved by reviewers, it follows Warren's poor attempts at survival and leadership in a world he wasn't prepared for and that no one expected.

He is an anti-hero of the apocalypse genre. He doesn't know how to use guns, and he doesn't want to save everybody. He just wants to survive. Is that too much to ask?

Great book, Terrible production

The book is a good one, especially with UK zombie based stories being few and far between, however the production value is atrocious. It sounds like it was recorded in someone’s bedroom, you can even hear the clicks of the mouse as the narrator is turning pages, very distracting! The narrator himself does do a good job, it’s just so let down by the production. I would advise picking up the paper copy as the book itself is good and definitely worth a read!

Excellent story, but…..

Excellent story, very good comedy horror, but incredibly poor editing, lots of repetitive lines, and sound quality in 2nd book is awful, sounds like it was recorded in a toilet.
Would still highly recommend.

Good story, shame about the production

Story was entertaining, although there is a significant continuity error in book 3. My only gripe is the production! It sounds as though it was recorded in the bathroom. The narration is almost there and with better production could have sneaked a star or two more. Anyway good story and worth the credit 🙂

Started well, finally gave up

This is a really interesting book but I am only sticking with it to find out what happens in the end.
However, the narration leaves a lot to be desired, it sounds like it has been recorded in an empty room and you can occasionally hear a mouse being clicked, assume this is the narrator turning a page on a screen.
There are sentences that have been repeated and unfortunately the narrator cannot/does not do voices, so conversations all run into one, even if more than one person is speaking.
If I thought that this book would be re-read I would stop listening now and await an updated version, with better sound quality.
Update - I have finally given up at the beginning of book 3, did the author not read how they ended boom two?? 4 glaring continuity issues in the prologue and beginning of chapter one, not going to give spoilers, finally pulled me out of the book fully. Very disappointing and will not be listening further or anything further this author writes.

not the highest budget but it adds to the atmosphe

as others have mentioned the quality of the recording is amature and the speaker doesn't do character voices. BUT in the context of the book, a diary entry sort of deal, it works in the books favour, it is read as though the speaker is the writer of the diary and he is recording his experiences in whatever safe place he can manage. it's enjoyable, just not on full volume

Great story

I read a lot of reviews saying about the audio quality but I think it adds to the story. I think the slightly tinny audio helps the post apocalyptic story

Good idea

Narrator can’t do accents but I’m glad he was British, the editing could be better,a lot of first lines were repeated which is irritating. The worse bit is it it seems the author forgot her own story. Overall though it’s worth a punt and I will get the next instalment. I do like the seemingly rare euro zombie books though, not all guns and and bunkers as is the case with most American settings.

I don't normally comment Really good story but..

... The narrator was a refreshing change that actually spoke English words, no alUminium or moss-Cow that pulls you out of the story to mutter to yourself it's Moscow not moss Cow. You can tell the narrator has a lot of potential and should continue with his endeavors it would be nice to hear him do some American books that said the sound studio and editing needs to improve quality was tinny with repeats with one big clicking mouse.. The book itself was well wrote with no massive dialogue of gun specs felt a bit rushed on the action side of things.. I hope the author continues the books with the same narrator ( with a better audio equipment) as the viruses sweeps across the world.

ok story, worst sound quality ever

Sounds like the guy is reading it from the bottom of a toilet bowl.
Also you can tell when he's taken a break as he starts again by repeating the sentence he stopped on, and it isn't even edited out.

Great story, shame about the production.

I’m halfway through what is a great story, with a good narrator. Unfortunately the sound quality is very poor to the point of distraction. I’ve tried several devices with the same tinny background noise. Hopefully it’s just a one off problem but if anyone can offer any advice I’d be grateful. If you like a good Zombie outbreak set against a UK background, you’ll probably enjoy this one!
