About this listen

Just outside the city – any city, every city – is a grand, spacious but affordable apartment building called The Beresford.

There’s a routine at The Beresford. For Mrs May, every day’s the same – a cup of cold, black coffee in the morning, pruning roses, checking on her tenants, wine, prayer and an afternoon nap. She never leaves the building.

Abe Schwartz also lives at The Beresford. His housemate, Sythe, no longer does. Because Abe just killed him. In exactly 60 seconds, Blair Conroy will ring the doorbell to her new home and Abe will answer the door. They will become friends. Perhaps lovers. And, when the time comes for one of them to die, as is always the case at The Beresford, there will be 60 seconds to move the body before the next unknowing soul arrives at the door.

Because nothing changes at The Beresford, until the doorbell rings ...

What a ride!

Loved this book.

A bunch of plot twists - and some jiggles along the way.

Bravo

Not as good as it thinks it is

I've listened to three Will Carver novels previously, and this is unfortunately nowhere near the standard of those. The story is contrived and laboured, and ultimately predictable.

The narration is excellent, but there are some strange edits or cuts throughout which are somewhat jarring.

Could have been an hour or more shorter

an interesting story with an unexpected twist but a bit long winded. I felt I could easily have skipped several chapters and not missed the storyline.

Enjoyed this

I have listened to Will Carvers recent books and really enjoyed them. He is now one of my favourite authors . I love the humour in his work and like the observations he makes. This is an early book and it's easy to appreciate how he has grown into his skin and developed his style. So even though it's not as good in tes of style I really enjoyed it.
