Summary
Shortlisted for the Philip K. Dick Award
The Book of Koli begins a breathtakingly original new trilogy set in a strange and deadly world of our own making.
Beyond the walls of the small village of Mythen Rood lies an unrecognisable landscape. A place where overgrown forests are filled with choker trees and deadly seeds that will kill you where you stand. And if they don't get you, the Shunned men will.
Koli has lived in Mythen Rood his entire life. He believes the first rule of survival is that you don't venture too far beyond the walls.
He's wrong.

Great narrator and really compelling story
Loved it, easy to listen to as all in first person and follows one main character. Post apocalyptic but a small story about a single person's place in the world, set in west yorkshire of all places, loved hearing the local place names. Going to go and get book 2 straight away.
Narrators voice sounded a bit dull at first but he is perfect for the story and has great range when performing other characters the lead interacts with.
Have already recommended this to multiple friends who like a lo fi sci fi, post apoc type story. Have read lots of mike carey's comics but this is first of his novels, will check out more.

Another good one from MR Carey made compelling by Theo Solomon
The Girl with all the Gifts is one of my favourite audiobooks and this is another really good story from Carey brought to life, brilliantly, by Theo Solomon’s narration. It reminds me again how vital the narrator’s ability is to the enjoyment of an audio story, this one is fantastic and reminds me very much of the Rivers of London series, also beautifully read.
