Summary

How do you raise a boy who can bend reality with his mind? How do you keep him levelheaded, sane, and good? Raising any child is a tremendous undertaking, let alone one blessed by the goddess herself. Levi Guildersleeve, retired soldier and successful collector of rare books, finds himself as the only male role model of the most powerful witch ever born. This is a prequel story of the childhood of Declan O'Carroll, as told by Levi.

A lot of re hash

I was hoping for a levi adventure. But it is just a retelling of a lot of declans bits with levi as a side character.
Worth a listen if you follow the series

Really good story, interesting characters and excellent narration. You couldn’t have a better introduction to the saga.

A must for the fans

I have listened to this whilst listening to the demon accords the second time round on anticipation of blood cull. It's a must. you should listen up to darken queen and all 3 compendiums to have the full picture.
love this book, love the series.

As good story as the rest of the series . An excellent filler / clarifier . Can’t wait for more !

Must read or listen for demon accords fans

Adds in some blanks about Declan’s back story and overall a good book, I would have liked a little more about Levi But hey you can’t have everything. If you are demon accords fan go for it.

loved it

if you loved the series then you will love this. it's the back story of the boy/man witch Declan but from the perspective of Levi his friend/instructor. It had it's usual laugh out loud moments. The only thing that is a weak point is the last chapters where if you had followed the series you will have already heard it but that's to be expected given it's a pre sequel to an existing book series

Really great new perspective

First of all this is not 0.5 in my opinion.
I finished the series as it was about one year ago and looked for everything else related to it.
Loved The Demon Accords and i've just now listened to this one.
It was a great feeling to remember why I loved the entire series and I really liked seeing the beginning of one of the main characters.
Still think this is best read after Decan meets with Chris, cannot remember the book where he is introduced, or even after when knowing what fill happen and appreciate the quiet before the storm.

Must be read after all others

This was a very enjoyable book but I think that anyone starting here - it is 0.5 after all - may not get the full enjoyment. Sometimes my mind would wonder and I’d forget that the first person is Levi not Declan but I soon got back on track.
