Just love this author

Will Dean is just getting better and better. I was gripped by this storyline from the very beginning, the characters, their backgrounds, and, of course, the whodunnit. Excellent narration and I just didn't want this book to end

The storyline didn't grab me at all.

This one was like pushing treacle uphill. Which is such a shame as l am a huge Will Dean fan. The book is depressing (no pun intended); l found it challenging to engage with the characters, and frankly, l couldn't have cared less who the culprit was. If you are into diving, hopefully, you will find this book more engaging. Unfortunately, this one just wasn't for me.

the use of building and release of tension throughout

some of the pronunciation was a little off, which threw me out of the story occasionally

Excellent narrator

Absolutely loved the voice actor. Great setting for a sadly predictable and repetitive story. What could've been an interesting plot twist was never pursued further.

Help, I think my pause button broke!

Wow, wow, wow! I could not put this down, I read it in one entire sitting on a Saturday. I love books with this plotline. Claustrophobic, trapped, fear. I thought of it as and then there were none meets 100 fathoms below.
Really well narrated by Helen as well, she was brilliant at all sorts of different accents, each character had their own unique voice. I would love to have heard what someone really on Heliox would sound like, though! With and without an unscrambler!
I loved how Dean put "Imagine you," or, "imagine," when trying to explain something someone who doesn't dive would understand. That really helped me to get what he was getting at.
Fantastic book, would highly recommend it.
I will say I had it figured out a little while in, but Dean doesn't make it easy! A really brilliant read.

Another excellent book from Will Dean, but

I thoroughly enjoyed this book especially all narrator who was excellent with all the different voice. I have read/listened to all of Will's stand alone books and always enjoy them but if I was to put them in order I would say this was my least favourite. it just didn't grip me like the other ones did especially The Passenger and The Last Thing to Burn.
One thing I would say is that Will.must have done a lot of research into diving in the North Sea. my h8sband worked on diving support vessels so I was able to ask about some of the technical aspects and as far as I can see they were all spot on. Kudos to Will for taking on such an unusual setting for his thiller.
I look forward to Will's future books.

Good mystery and edge of seat story

I enjoyed this for a week on the way to work and wished I had a few more traffic jams! I did think the ending g was a bit drawn out and then suddenly rushed but still enjoyable . This is the second book I have listened to and I already have another lined up!

Not what is says on the tin (at least in my eyes)!

I don't often write reviews, but felt I had to for this book if only to notify people of what it IS and ISN'T.

Despite the cover - and the blurb - this is NOT about saturation diving. It is about saturation divers. There is one sequence of diving that last for about 10 minutes which is totally inconsequential to the story.

What this is, is a clever take (albeit poorly executed) on the locked room concept, but I found myself having to suspend my disbelief a lot more than I would have expected to given the genre. No spoilers, but there were plenty of moments where things could have been done differently and none of this would have happened, or would have been over much sooner.

I found the description of how the chamber is connected to ship confusing and couldn't really picture it in my imagination, this led to me not being 100% sure of the layout of the chamber/support vessel. This is very problematic when the entire story is based in this location. I really felt a trick was missed here.

Whilst Helen Kelley is clearly VERY talented and able to do a number of decent accents, I found the multiple changes in regional accents really grating - possibly more due to the writing than the performance itself. However, there were a few instances when a character appeared to 'forget' he had an affliction, and when he remembered it was a bit comical to be honest - again no spoilers. It addition to this, one character's nickname changed subtly based on who was speaking it, And finally, the voice of the alternative night supervisor was also incredibly annoying - and I felt - out of place.

There were a lot of stories between characters which I felt were just filler - almost as if trying to pad out the running time.

I did not empathise with any of the characters (who I felt were a bit one dimensional), I disliked them all equally and was unfortunately disinterested in the ultimate fate of each of them. This made me feel like I was on a long plane journey with a group of people I didn't like - and couldn't get away from - until the plane landed which is a bit of a flaw given the premise.

The story didn't really go anywhere for me, instead of finding it suspenseful I found it dragging, and to be honest I couldn't wait to finish it - and when it did it was a complete and utter anti-climax - with a bit of a ludicrous and far fetched ending!

I wonder if my negativity is based on the fact it was not about saturation diving, but even if this was the case, I probably still wouldn't have enjoyed it.

Not my cup of tea - but I can appreciate the effort that went in to it - sorry!

Had high hopes!

Disappointed - Not as good as other books by this author. Also, did not like the narrator!
