About this listen
When Cara is left widowed and in debt, she must make a hasty decision before she is left destitute and homeless. When she begins corresponding with Moss, a mercantile owner in Texas, he soon proposes, and Cara believes her prayers have been answered.
On the stagecoach to Texas, she befriends a young man who's traveling to the same town as her. Jordan is an outcast due to the unsightly scar on his face, but as Cara gets to know Jordan, she realizes others have judged him unjustly.
When they arrive in Texas, Cara and Moss plan their wedding. Jordan plans to stick around until he's sure Cara is safe and Moss is the man he says he is. When Jordan packs to leave as Cara's wedding approaches and Cara says good-bye to him, she realizes she may have made the biggest mistake of her life.

Loved this SHORT Mail Order Bride Story
Poor East coast seamstress widow pledges herself to marry a mercantile owner whose store is in San Antonio, but meets a noble scarred former soldier from the recent US civil war on the stage enroute to new groom. Reasons I liked: 1. short, >2 hours audiobook, great filler between longer books and long series 2. a believable heroine who has reasonable second thought moments 3. clean, happy, stress free - great escape of 2022 real life's worries 4. a fresh, new to me, narrator who does a variety of voice characterizations well and has an engaging story telling voice pattern that pulls you through the story, rather then falling into a repetitive pause, breath pattern that becomes sing-songy. VERY lightly Christian.

Wonderful twist on mail order bride romance!
A twist on the mail order bride story and it's fantastic! I love this genre, always wonderful to hear how the bride and groom find their happily ever after, but Stella Clark gives this one a twist! Cara is widowed and now has agreed to cross the country to marry the owner of a mercantile. But on the way, she meets a man that worms his way into her heart. Now, as she gets to know her betrothed, will she stand by her commitment or follow her heart? I loved this. The story is fresh, sweet and easy to fall into. It's the perfect weekend listen!
Sarah Kisko is wonderful as she tells us this story. Great voices for both men and women and just the right amount of emotion. She understands each character and finds the perfect voice for them, giving the story an easy flow and an enjoyable performance.
