About this listen

Run from the past. Run from the future. Run for your lives.

He's a novice time traveler in a big universe.

Ben just wants time with the scientist's daughter who got him into this, but when he's rooked into competing in a chronothon - an Amazing Race through time - getting the girl means he'll need to make the finish line. When he finds out this competition is more than just a sprint through history, winning takes a back seat to surviving. To save the people he loves, he'll have to conquer the real dangers hidden in the shadows of the chronothon.

The world of time travelers expands in this next installment of the In Times Like These series. Fans of book one will find more to love, but new listeners can jump right in and enjoy this stand-alone story. Expect action, adventure, and romance on this journey through past and future. Fresh dangers will arise for Ben and company in a quest for the finish line, where failure to keep up will cost more than just a shot at glory - it could mean the end for them all.

Just brilliant

I've read the book a couple of times and just love it. There is an awareness of continuity and plausiblity about this series of books that marks it out as special.

Compelling adventure story

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I'm a big fan of the author, and loved The Chronothon when it was published as an ebook. It's very clever - a young man gets tricked into taking part in a deadly race through different periods in time. The action follows him and his fellow competitors. Terrific action sequences and some clever sub-plots.

The narrator is absolutely perfect for this novel - a great voice, and he reads with at the right tempo inflection for every line in each scene. A very hard job, done exceptionally well.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Chronothon?

I really enjoy the extracts from Quickly's journal at the start of each chapter. There are some terrific action sequences, but also some clever sub-plots that play out really well.

Have you listened to any of Neil Hellegers’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Not familiar with the narrator's other work, but this one is excellent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Too long for one sitting. Excellent value!

Time travel fan? This is for you

Everything you could wNg from a time travel story, and more. And not just a story set in one time and the present. It's great. It's a stand alone sequel but it's worth enjoying the first part first in my opinion also.
