About this listen
This box set contains all three books of the Sun-Blessed Trilogy - over 43 hours of fresh, unique YA fantasy. Dive into a world of golden magic and looming evil.
The glow itself seemed to be alive, breathing, spreading under the baby’s skin. One question filled my mind: Who is this child?
Tavi Malin is born facing the sun, filled with greater magic than any other sun-blessed child. When Tavi turns 14, her magic awakens. Her uncontrollable, destructive power frightens those around her - almost as much as it terrifies Tavi herself.
Tavi and her friends train to use their gifts, unaware of the threat developing in a distant city. Dissidents have banded together, and they’re killing to attain gray magic, an ominous new force that breaks the rules of ordinary magic.
But to seize true power, the Grays must grow their ranks - and Tavi is a prize worth pursuing.
In a fight where confidence is as crucial as strength, even extraordinary gifts aren’t sufficient. If Tavi is to prevail against the Grays, she must find a courage that goes deeper than magic itself.
You’ll love the entrancing characters, relationships, and magic in this all-new fantasy world.

Not my cup of tea
The author narrates herself. She sounded a bit creaky every now and then, and I’d like more distinction between the different voices, but all in all, it was okay.
The story: it starts with a birth. The description was a bit too long. I could do with a little less detail. But it was important to show the importance of the Sun-Blessed birth. But it goes for the whole story: there was just too much detail, making things too drawn-out. Making the story - sorry if it sounds harsh but that’s how I felt - boring. I was not interested enough to keep my mind from wandering off. The story, and the voice, didn’t hold my attention. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. Even though I love the genre, and even though the synopsis sounded so good, this book didn’t do much for me. You know, it wasn’t bad! But it was just not for me. I think if the story was shortened, tightened, it would be better.
I am sorry, but I didn’t manage to get farther than book 1.

Just wasn't what we hoped for
This was for a 12 yr old. She couldn't get into the story.
Lots of mature themes and while some of the story line and subplots were enthralling, some characters developed well and the "idea" of the book great, the narrator and author really didn't develop characters or the story as much as they could.
She listened to the first 2 hours and doesn't want to listen anymore.
It's going to be returned.

Magical!
First of all, I can be really picky about narrators so great to find one that helped me step outside of my usual comfort zone. Anderson does a good job of differentiating each character but never resorts to any "silly" voices.
I really enjoyed the world that was created in this trilogy. The magical elements were well thought through, yet could still surprise me as they developed with the books.
Personally, my favourite thing about this series was that none of the characters were perfect. The MC starts out young and goes through things as a teenager which she reacts to as a teenager would (ok, and with magic!) The "bad guys" have different motivations, some more understanable than others. Often series that take you over years can seem oddly stilted with lack of growth/change in the characters, and this was definitely not the case.
I have read other books by the same author before and while I could tell this series was her debut, with some instances of slower pacing (as an audiobook I was ok with this but could be an issue for some readers), which is something she has obviously progressed in further novels, I was generally so impressed. Anderson manages to keep the action scenes (often repetitive in trilogies) fresh and exciting.
