About this listen
'I charge you, Sir Alan Dale, with administering my death. At the end of the game, I would rather die by your hand than any other.'
England rebels. War rages across the land. In the wake of Magna Carta, King John's treachery is revealed, and the barons rise against him once more. Fighting with them is the Earl of Locksley - the former outlaw Robin Hood - and his right-hand man, Sir Alan Dale.
France invades. When the French enter the fray, with the cruel White Count leading the charge, Robin and Alan must decide where their loyalties lie: with those who would destroy the king and seize his realm or with the beloved land of their birth.
A hero lives forever. Fate is inexorable, and Death waits for us all. Or does it? Can Robin Hood pull off his greatest ever trick and cheat the Grim Reaper one last time just as England needs him most?
The climactic episode of The Outlaw Chronicles is the most explosive yet - but who will survive and who will fall when the final reckoning comes?

A brilliant end to my favourite series
I had mixed feelings about listening to the last in the outlaw series as I didn't want it to end. What an excellent way to end my favourite series. It's the characters that really made this story for me. Yes the story lines and scene setting is first class but Angus has made me really care about the characters and what happens to them, as if they are old friends. I will really miss them and will read/listen to the stories again. The sign of a true classic!

So sorry it's over
I just finished The Death of Robinhood on audiobook. Chances are if you are reading this review you have read the other books and don't worry this one is just as good. A brilliant ending to a brilliant series. I loved being on this little little RobinHood journey. Sorry it has to end

Going to miss this series
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. The earlier books had historical accuracy and detail but lacked pace and the first narrator chosen failed to put any spark into the telling. However, as the series progressed the novels improved; maintaining their detail but bringing the characters to life, allowing us to relate and empathise with them, and Mike Rogers does a fantastic job narrating.
What did you like best about this story?
There was a lovely mix of the original legend in with "Outlaw's" unique perspective. It is not a stand-alone tale but is a fitting close to the saga and tribute to the protagonists. I felt quite sad that I would not be hearing any more of Alan and Robin's adventures.
What about Mike Rogers’s performance did you like?
He draws you into the tale bringing the characters to life. His accents and voices are subtle and believable, not heavy-handed caracatures like some. The rythmn of his speach makes you want to keep on listening.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Over the books there have been several moments where the reader really "feels" for the character; moments of excitement, wry smiles, frustration and sadness. The end of this book is the same. There is a sense of unfairness mixed in with pity and sadness, yet also of satisfaction as the legend is laid to rest in the way he should be.
Any additional comments?
I would recommend starting this series at the beginning and "toughing out" the more pedantic early novels, when Angus Donald finds his stride it is well worth while and the books become an addictive pleasure

A fitting conclusion blending myth and history
Would you consider the audio edition of The Death of Robin Hood to be better than the print version?
I have read and listened to all of this series - one thing missing from the audio books is the 'historical notes' I wish these would be included. That said the narrator breathes life into the characters and as most of my listening is done whilst driving I prefer the audio version
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Death of Robin Hood?
Many memorable moments in this book hard to mention without spoiling the plot. I will remember Alan's 'Lone ride home'.
What about Mike Rogers’s performance did you like?
Mike brings a consistence to the characters and has the various accents mastered
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book did bring a tear to the eye but thats to be expected in an end to a long running series. I picked the first book Outlaw up by chance a few years ago and up to that point had not been a fan of the RH legends. However was instantly hooked on the added realism portrayed in these books and will miss Robin and Alan. I plan to re read/listen now.
Any additional comments?
It was a good ending and I look forward to seeing what comes next from Angus

The legend lives on!
A fantastic novel and last in the series (or is it?) of Robin Hood! Angus has a incredible ability which many authors fail to accomplish.....it is easy to make a reader fall in love with a character but it is not easy to make the reader feel every emotion of that character as though the reader is in the story himself! I urge you to read this book and the series! Guarantee you will love it!

Goodbye to a good friend…
I really enjoyed this satisfactory tie up of loose ends. Hopefully we can listen to another few books that the author has hinted at adding to the series.
