About this listen

On an Earth ravaged by toxic waste and violent mutants, one girl with power in her blood will rise to save them.

Only the Decemites—carefully selected children injected with nanobots and trained to survive the treacherous terrain Earth has become—can survive the outside long enough to collect resources for the domed city of Echelon. Decemites who serve long enough have a chance at a better life. But few live to experience their reward.

Myla’s only ever known the stratified life inside the dome. As the secret child of a forbidden Decemite relationship, she has abilities like no one else, abilities she’s had to keep hidden her entire life. But when her Decemite sister goes missing on a mission, Myla’s search to bring her home will uncover the truth about the Outside and the secrets the leader of Echelon has been keeping. No normal human is supposed to be able to survive outside the dome, but rebel Outsiders prove that wrong.

By her side is Lock, the Decemite golden boy and unlikely companion in her quest. As she grows closer to Lock, a rebel boy, Ben, shows her the lies that Echelon has been keeping. He draws her deep into the rebel world and a life she never could have imagined.

As she uncovers the ugly truths about Echelon, Myla will have to make a choice: can she ever go back to her old life, or is her only chance at freedom to tear down the only world she’s ever known?

very good dystopian trilogy

I enjoyed this dystopian trilogy with deception and politics at its center accompanied with a cast of interesting characters. I liked that it had its unique vibes and is not a twist on Katniss story.
Recommended for lovers of dystopian story with a female lead who has her head on her shoulders...

Great story

It's hard to find a really original story, and this is pretty close to it. Some of the elements were a little predictable, but on the whole it's not copying anything. I'm not sure if it was because I listen while working, but some of the events were a little confusing, however it may be better on 2nd listening.

The narrator was the thing that irked me. She is pretty good, however some of the voices she did didn't make sense, I can tell she was trying to make different voices for each character, but the accents were a little odd and certain characters sounded like they were old even though it was supposed to be difficulty talking (from what I understand anyway).

If I knew what I knew now, I'd definitely buy it again, and I will listen again to see if I can concentrate more 2nd time through.

A perfect trilogy with a great narration

An entertaining and interesting trilogy with a very fluid narrative.

I was really pleased to hear this story with dystopian overtones and female empowerment.

The narrator's voice was soft and very appropriate.

Very good listen, really.

YA dystopian SF struggle trilogy in one go.

You get to hear all three books (The Decemites; The Lofties; the Skyseekers) in the Echelon series in the correct order and with a consistent narrator. Good worldbuilding and set up of the downtrodden and exploited coming into their own and learning the truth, which sets them free. Along the way our heroine, Myla encounters three males who have influence on her life. One is a creepy yet powerful relative of the ruler of the dystopian community and often enemy, but the other two come from contrasting backgrounds. Myla's affections and loyalties are tested with a surprising betrayal and having to learn again who can be trusted. No surprise she chooses the one who is selfless and gives her autonomy over the one who is single-minded on his own goals and demands her support.
Some of the helpers seemed a bit improbable and endowed with to much power or ability, but the conundrums and challenges for the goodies kept on coming through all three books. Myla is squeamish about killing and riven by her own consicience, but the resolution when faced by her ultimate enemy is clever.
The narrator was mostly on point and could distinguish male from female and convey emotion. However, her saying of names was inconsistent and off-putting. A couple of examples: Oonagh (Myla's sister) features in the story a lot but sometimes said as the first syllable rhyming with moon and others the name sounded like Owner: simiilarly, Raymond varied between rhyming with pond and man.
