Summary
Last summer, Katherine May was approaching 40, feeling overwhelmed by motherhood and lacking connection with others, lost in a world of inundation and expectation. She had always felt different but this feeling was new. She wanted to get out, get free and find herself again - and so set about walking the rugged 450 mile South West Coast Path.
However, this journey uncovers more than she ever imagined. By chance, en route to the walk, Katherine hears a radio show and the guests are speaking about Asperger's Syndrome. Things begin to fall into place - could this explain the white-outs, the excruciating confusion around social contact, the electric feeling of every living thing?
After a formal diagnosis, Katherine begins to unravel this new perspective of her life. Through her physical journey comes an emotional one - of accepting who she is and moving forward. It's not just about walking or Asperger's; this is one woman's journey to feel free within herself, something that everyone can relate to.

Enlightened.
In my own disjointed circumstances, fields of rage, doubt, anger, solitude, rooms of suffocating nausea and cold sweat from older life, frozen on glass and wood, clinging, aromatic life with only morning escape and daylight, into the daytime dance again. Still I'm here

A walk along a familiar path
As I began listening to Katherine May describe her journey I could feel her anger. I worried that this was going to be a "woe is me and it's every other f*****s fault" kind of read. Then as I listened on I realised just how real her story was. There was no glamour just bare faced truth . A truth so readily available from those with asd.
And an all too familiar story. This was beautifully written and read. And a great read for anyone struggling with the late diagnosis of asd. **********

A phenomenal book
I have so enjoyed this book. It’s written with honesty and a beautiful clarity. A remarkable insight into one person’s inner life, and her journey towards a greater understanding of herself. I loved it.

Confirmed what I suspected!
Having struggled my whole life, I suspected ASD.

I saw myself between the lines
I don't have a diagnosis of ASD, but I do have sensory processing issues and can relate to a lot of the author's feelings and experiences. Her journey along the path is carefully intertwined with her journey towards understanding herself. Part nature writing, part memoir, and also informative - a very well balanced book. It is unflinchingly honest and in parts uncomfortable, but it's all part of the journey.

Cried, laughed, gasped and loved it
Coming from an interesting family and having an interesting child, and being quite the academic weirdo myself I absolutely loved this personal story. Katherine writes beautifully, with such clarity, honesty and humour. I’d love to read more from her.

Different But Good
I didn't know what to expect when I started listening to this book. As I got to the end I realised it's value as an insight into Asperger's and one woman's account on her life's journey to diagnosis, the pro and cons.
at times it was like listening to a book written by Julie Bradbury 'walking with Julia' and lost me at times as it seemed heavily fixed on her journey walking in various locations in the south west. as I live in Cornwall and a large part was set there I did have to laugh at some of the place name pronunciations however that aside, overall it was a light enjoyable account of one person's life. if nothing else it has encouraged me to get out in my local land and start walking more.

Soothing electricity
Loved this book and being read to my the author. It weaves her walking journey with her journey of autism diagnosis and acceptance. Heartwarming, interesting & thought provoking. Recommended.

Absolutely outstanding, throughly recommended
As a newly diagnosed adult female with ASD I found this book so very moving and insightful. I could have been Katherine, her experiences mirror mine closely. It has given me great comfort to know there are many others that view the world as I do and my struggles are shared. This book is helpful to anyone living with ASD and their partners and families also.
