About this listen

Evan never thought he was going to be special. As the adopted son of a tailor, he had always expected to manage the shop after his father passed. But when his Aura awakens, he finds himself entering Yesgol Academy of Magic, a place filled with the children of elite mages and nobles, all of whom have had magical education from the time they could walk. Among such prestigious company, Evan will have to learn fast or be left in the dust and in debt.

At Yesgol, he studies the arts of enchanting and divination, but all is not as it seems. As Evan pushes forward his skills as a mage to catch up with his peers, he finds himself entangled with a secret society for the reformation of magic, deals with the occasional extraplanar horror appearing in the shadows of the school, and catches the eye of a charming young noble who's been excommunicated from his family.

very entertaining easy fantasy listning

Started off setting the scene which takes a couple of chapters but then starts to amp up about a quarter of the way through and gets you completely hooked by the end. Am impatiently awaiting the next in the series!

A slower start but completely draws you in

Love it the characters, and the magic is really cool. Been binge reading both books.

Great

Good story. Interesting magic system. Progression mechanics sound promising.

I was initially apprehensive of an anxious MC, however it was written well, it wasn’t overdone and in the end made character more believable.

I found that MC had too much of a emotional maturity for his age and lack of social experience but it might be just personal preference.

Overall I would definitely recommend. One of the better progression fantasy books out there and I look forward to the next book.

Surprisingly Good

This book was an engaging interesting read that's left me wanting more. It's stronger than most debut novels and has an interesting world, magic system, and plot. The only real issue I had was that the book is narrated by a woman while the protagonist is a man. The performance is still great, it can just take you out of things a bit. I'd strongly suggest picking it up if you're a fan of the genre!

Fantastic debut!
