Summary

As the world's biggest powers compete for superiority, it's not larger weapons or greater numbers of soldiers that top their wish lists. Instead, it's the latest and greatest technological advances: nanotechnology, dynamic programming algorithms, and drones, working together to build the next generation of military communications.

When a professor at a Texas university begins researching ways to improve animal husbandry and boost global food supplies, her results catch the eye of inquisitive engineer Keith Austin Avery, whose interests have nothing to do with solving world hunger.

But as Avery works on potential new uses for this technology, his research draws the attention of a powerful terrorist group, with traumatic results for him and his subcontractor Eilla-Zan Marshall.

Now it;s up to the members of the R-Group to find the terrorists and their captives, using all the data and analytics at their disposal to leverage each and every piece of information.

The fast-paced third installment of the Enigma Series has R-Group's Jacob working closely with a powerful and talented team, with results that incorporate a satisfying balance of technology, surprisingly sensitive romance, and the blurred lines that surround the age-old conflict between good and evil.

Good Characters

Any additional comments?

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed this installment in the Enigma series. I did enjoy the characters more than the plot, which I struggled to believe somewhat. I did struggle a bit with the technology parts, which kind of just went over my head at parts. But, I enjoyed seeing Jacob and Petra again, and I really liked the character of the story, Professor Su Lin.

Another great book in a brilliant series!

I love the detail in these books. Specifically in relation to the technology. It's great to listen to someone talk about something they know and understand but not in an overly scientific or boring way. That really comes out in these books. It's interesting and good and adds depth.

That's not to say that we are short in character depth and inter-character twists turns and interests. We have some great characters that the narrator does a brilliant job in bringing to life.

It's an espionage thriller that's got great pace and has technology as an enabler to the espionage elements.

I like the shadowy R-Group as well in terms of what they bring to the story.

All in all another great read.

Yeah, I'm hooked

I am completly immersed in the storyline and characters... I've been able to enjoy the reader... on another note... I was recently at a convention and happened on both Burkey and Breakfield... they were warm and inviting... it was a real thrill to meet Roxanne and Charles... I'm looking forward to the next volume!! Well done, guys

When you face the dark demons...

The Enigma series just keeps getting better.
This is not a fast paced, action thriller. Just the opposite. It moves slowly, densely filling the pages with conversations, stories, anecdotes and explanations of aspects of computer workings But don't be fooled - the tension is palpable. Once underway the story is gripping, the characters steadily gaining real personally and presence, over and above what has been received from the earlier books, and the compulsion to find our what will happen to each one is almost as powerful as pondering the futures of real life acquaintances.

Narrator Derek Shoales is back again to breath further life into each of the protagonists on both sides of the conflict, his voicing for each now being distinctive and strangely appropriate (even if the accents are occasionally suspect), making the dialogue feel natural in context. His reading is clear with good intonation and adherence to the pace of the book. And his warm voice is a pleasure to hear.
A good performance.

This is a thoughtful thriller featuring a white tiger, code cracking and compiling, counterfeit currencies, "computer generated Russian roulette", a (literal) kill switch which just keeps on morphing, conspiracies and kidnapping and murder. All good, exciting reading. But it is the characters themselves who take center stage. I received a freely given complimentary copy of Ignite at my request, from the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. I enjoyed it immensely. Recommended to all who enjoy tech based and character led thrillers.
