Summary

Welcome to the escape room. Your goal is simple. Get out alive.

In the lucrative world of Wall Street finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie and Sam are the ultimate high flyers. Ruthlessly ambitious, they make billion-dollar deals and live lives of outrageous luxury. Getting rich is all that matters, and they'll do anything to get ahead.

When the four of them become trapped in an elevator escape room, things start to go horribly wrong.

They have to put aside their fierce office rivalries and work together to solve the clues that will release them. But in the confines of the elevator the dark secrets of their team are laid bare. They are made to answer for profiting from a workplace where deception, intimidation and sexual harassment thrive.

Tempers fray and the escape room's clues turn more and more ominous, leaving the four of them dangling on the precipice of disaster.

If they want to survive, they'll have to solve one more final puzzle: which one of them is a killer?

Bonkers but fun!

Well this was a fun listen. Bonkers but lots of fun!

This is my first book by Megan Goldin and it is a well written and fast paced psychological thriller set in the world of high finance about four co-workers who end up trapped in an elevator and have to complete puzzles as a team building exercise. Escape rooms are very popular these days and although there are a few movies based on the concept, this is the first book I have heard of. The chapters alternate between the people stuck in the elevator, and also Sara Hall, a former employee at the firm. Not one of the characters is likeable, But the book is very clever and totally addictive and I look forward to reading more by Ms Goldin.

Excellent narration by January LaVoy (one of my favourites) and Ramon de Ocampo.

good idea falls somewhat flat...

Great idea for a thriller let down by cardboard finance industry villains and perfect heroine.

Why American terminology???

The story is great however although the story is set in the uk and the characters are NOT American for some reason there is a lot of unnecessary American terminology......sidewalk, sneakers etc.. the story is immersive however when these words are used I found I was distracted from the story whilst trying to figure out why the word pavement instead of sidewalk wasn’t used!!!🤔 which is sad as the story is VERY VERY GOOD.

Enjoyable

I did enjoy this. I think January LaVoy is an excellent narrator and that’s what drew me in originally as I wasn’t aware of the author before. Both the story and narration where easy listening on a sleepless night so thank you all. I just wish there had been a bit more tension and that it wasn’t made quite so obvious what was going on. None the less, it was a good listen. And like counting sheep, which is far less entertaining, didn’t make me fall sleep!
