Summary
The 'if' of death is certain. The 'when' is unknown. It is the 'why' that really gets people's interest ...
From a rare and deadly amniotic avalanche to a victim of roasted peanuts ... The bestselling author of The Cause of Death and The Quick and the Dead returns with more stranger-than-fiction stories of death, disease and murder—as well as new perspectives on high-profile cases, including the disappearance of Ben Smart and Olivia Hope, the trial of Mark Lundy, and the ill-fated journey of Ansett Flight 703.

High expectations were surpassed
I adore all of these books but particularly enjoyed the current topics in this most recent one. Excellent as ever - will there be another?!

Fun for a morbid mind
Good story, well read, jumps around somewhat which can become confusing but this is ultimately a list of interesting stories so it’s not difficult to tune in ad hoc. The author reading their story sounds consistently hungry throughout, audible belly rumbles which I enjoyed.

Greatly enjoyed from start to finish
First of all may I commend the narrator? Perfectly pitched and a pleasure to listen to - not too flamboyant but never dull, I could listen to this gentleman talk all day.
This was a great collection of slightly unusual stories from a pathologist and gives a good insight into the kind of work he does including some stories from others he has worked with. Sometimes sad, sometimes amusing but never self indulgent like some books of this ilk can be...a fine line to tread!
The literary quotes at the conclusion of each chapter is a nice touch too.
I can see two earlier books by the same author (different narrator though) so I'll give those a try too as I really did enjoy this one and it was informative as well as entertaining.

Truly Gripping and Insightful
Fascinating insight into the pathologist’s role in determining the cause of death and explaining how critical it is for hypotheses to be able to replicated in order to be proof of undeniable scientific fact. The last chapter explaining the ‘21 grams’ theory which was previously unknown to me was absolutely fascinating. More of the same please!

How captivating the listen was.
Was a wonderful audible to listen to either in the car or whilst pottering on around the house, the author understands and appreciates what it takes to captivate the reader/listener and is able to convey a clear story that the listener can imagine in their head.
