About this listen

An Unputdownable Psychological Thriller

Every home has a story. Some are better left untold.

Property developer Vivien Young thought she’d finally rebuilt her life. After a messy divorce, she’s returned to her childhood sanctuary, the grand Georgian home she now shares with her ageing father. Landing the contract to redevelop the Valley Park housing estate feels like the icing on the cake – a chance to prove she can succeed and keep her floundering business afloat.

But one fierce opponent stands in her way: Binty Fletcher, a reclusive old woman who would rather die than abandon her crumbling home on Valley Park. A woman who will do anything to protect the secrets hidden within its walls.

Determined to move forward, Vivien digs into Binty’s shadowy past, and strange connections begin to emerge – links between Binty and Vivien’s beloved home, which nestles in the shadow of the Valley Park estate.

As Binty’s desperation grows dangerous, Vivien uncovers a chilling truth: her and her father’s perfect home hides its own dark history, and Binty Fletcher isn’t the only one keeping secrets…

The 1960s era of free love collides with the high-stakes world of modern property development in this dual-timeline psychological thriller that will leave you breathless.

I rarely write reviews however I’m still reading this book and loving it so much I wanted to review it now! I’m from Newcastle where it is set perfectly and the authentic accents of the narrators makes it all the more special. The ‘past’ chapters and the authors description of the flower house and its inhabitants are so beautifully written I could literally be there. Can’t wait to see how it ends, and I’ll also be watching out for the next Nicky Black novel.

Brilliant narration, great story line

Kept me gripped right to the end. Every time I thought I had sussed the plot a twist came. Coming from Newcastle I could relate to the areas in the story, and having Geordies reading the book made such a difference. Definitely worth listening to.

Kept me gripped right to the end.

This book will have you gripped.
This is the story about two women battling over a property, or so you would think in the beginning.
It is so much more.
It's an intricately woven novel about lies, betrayal and deceit that creates amazing intrigue and suspense.
It has 3 POVs that are all fantastically gripping, and the character development was 10/10.
I have to say sometimes I struggle with audiobooks not hooking me in and I'm very fussy with the narration but this was superb.
This gives Lisa Jewell energy, perfect for fans of hers and love a suspenseful mystery!

Wow what a story! I didn't want it to end!

I read the paperback of The Flower House on holiday this year and I could not have been more excited when I heard it was going to be on Audible.

For anyone looking for a recommendation, it’s here!!!

The two amazing narrators - they brought the story from the pages to life.

My favourite character, Grandude. I loved him from the first moment I read the book.

Brilliant!!!

Such a gripping story unfurling cleverly through the use of the dual timelines and read brilliantly by both actors.
I can see this being made into a fabulous Netflix show soon. I highly recommend.

Epic, moving and utterly engrossing story

What was unique about this audiobook was the regional accents which gave it an authentic feel and really bought the characters to life.

I love a thriller told from different characters POV so this was right up my street. Just when I thought I'd work out the mystery, another twist was thrown in to change my mind or blow my theory.

This was a great gritty northern thriller that keeps you guessing. With a great amount of twists and suspense to keep me invested and wanting to know more. The short chapters hooked me in.

I'll definitely be checking out the other books from this author which are set in the same housing estate.

Loved listening to this book. It tells the story over two time lines which are intertwined
A story of grief, cults, naivety, greed, family and love
Highly recommended

Gripped from the start!

Great storyline. Reminded me a little of A Fatal Inversion, but better....and with Geordies. I couldn't guess the ending.

Loved the narration. I'd already read the book and couldn't put it down but the audible experience took it to another level. Great characters and plot twists that leave you gagging for the next chapter, I was unable to get out of the car - just one more...

Set in the late 60's, when a couple of teenagers living alone since their parents death, invite an idealistic and totally charismatic hippy Kip Armstrong into their home, their lives change forever. Told by two delicious Geordie narrators taking you back and forth between 'then' and 'now' the intricate plot starts gently then gets you completely hooked with one plot twist after another culminating in a momentous denoument that brings every strand together. Absolutely loved it, so different. Skilful writer. Can't wait for the next book Nicky Black!

Totally compelling, step back in time sisters!

Audiobook review
Well this was excellent as well.
The characters had even more life with the narrators & I thought they were full on in the book as I read it.
Such a great story & series. Should be much more recognised than it is.
