Summary

Plan Aurora, hatched in a remote dacha in the forest outside Moscow and initiated with relentless brilliance and skill, is a plan within a plan that, in its spine-chilling ingenuity, breaches the ultra-secret Fourth Protocol and turns the fears that shaped it into a living nightmare. A crack Soviet agent, placed under cover in a quiet English country town, begins to assemble a jigsaw of devastation. MI5 investigator John Preston, working against the most urgent of deadlines, leads an operation to prevent the act of murderous destruction aimed at tumbling Britain into revolution...

The Fourth Protocol - Very enjoyable

The Fourth Protocol - Very enjoyable
This is my first Frederick Forsyth novel and apart from a very length explanation by philby to Russian leader regarding the Labour Party in uk this was an edge of the seat spy yarn.
Excellent narration by David Rintoul

Amazing detail in a gripping story

This is a gripping story of spies but what really distinguishes the book is the amount of detail. For instance, there is a fascinating treaty early on regarding the political state of the UK in the late 70s and early 80s. There are also fascinating insights of how the Soviet spies go about their business, many details of which appear in the Americans tv series.

Thoroughly recommended.

Slow Burn

This is a good story that's well told. For a while I felt that it slowed down a touch but really this was just the pullback for the finale.

Excellent espionage story, well presented

Any additional comments?

This is a well written spy thriller, with a good protagonist, and an excellent story. As some other reviewers have mentioned, some of the extended political historical exposition grinds a little, but for the main, there is much to enjoy. It is more realistic than bond - there is no pantomime villain, for example, and has a certain immediacy, being centred in the UK. It is perhaps more accessible than le Carre, without that author's tendency somewhat to keep you guessing. UK readers won't regret it.

Another supetb political thriller

A thoroughly enjoyable page-turner/ear-bender of a tale. The Russians are up to the worst of dirty tricks, to whip up anti-nuclear sentiment, while orchestrating a Marxist-Leninist coup within the Labour Party.

You’ll surely enjoy this novel, unless you support Momentum andbtheextreme Left.
