Summary
Book two of the Dawn of Fire series
As the Indomitus Crusade spreads across the Imperium Sanctus, the cardinal world Gathalamor is caught in the grip of war - but when an ancient evil is unearthed, the entire crusade is threatened....
Listen to it because: with the crusade in full flow, get your first look at the full scale of the horrors inflicted upon the Imperium and the determination of Guilliman to defeat them and reunite the emperor's realm.
The story: as the Indomitus Crusade begins, fleets of mighty warships leave Terra on a vital quest to stabilise Imperium Sanctus in the wake of the Great Rift. The returned primarch, Roboute Guilliman, leads a huge force towards the shrine world of Gathalamor, where stable warp routes will allow the flotilla to spread across the beleaguered southern half of the Imperium.
But grave tidings reach the Imperial Regent’s ears. Warnings from an ancient race, and eerie silence from the army tasked with holding Gathalamor until his arrival, lead Guilliman to send a reconnaissance mission to the world, at its head, Shield-Captain Achallor of the Adeptus Custodes.
Achallor discovers a world on the brink: a beaten Imperial force and sinister agents of Abaddon the Despoiler who have unearthed an ancient evil - a weapon that when harnessed not only threatens the primarch, but perhaps the holy Throne of Terra itself....
Written by Andy Clark. Narrated by John Banks.

great insight into the beginning of Era Indomitus
Good to see the view of the Custodes and what they think of returned Primarch Robute, the Emperor, and the general state of the galaxy.

Worth it
often when a series is written by multiple authors you think it won't be as good as the first or it will be too different not at all Andy Clark has done an excellent job with this book and John Banks' narration was simply marvellous with a wide range of accents and voices that were never too strained or forced to feel unrealistic or comical. I enjoyed it immensely all I can say

Excited for the rest of this series
I am honestly starting to believe this series might be able to take over from the Horus heresy books. It will take a while but if worked on enough and more information and surprises are revealed then the series will become engaging and gripping enough to get a huge backing.
This book like the last was amazing well written. I will leave no spoilers, but I have to admit that keeping certain characters help the story as well.
I can’t wait for the next book, so please give this book and the series a try.

Not bad, long but keeps you hooked
I’m going through the DOF series and I have to say I enjoyed this a lot. I made the mistake of listening to a few other WH books in between this and the first book but basically this is set at the same time but does not follow the same characters as the first book but is centred around Robo Guilli.
Lots of action, lots of death, lots of sympathy for the devil etc I like the doubt in more of the factions, the religious fanatic tone throughout the imperium can get a little grating… hence why I started my 40K journey with Garro. Good book, good narration - presently halfway through Wolftime.

the debate of faitg
I liked the conflict both it the literal sense being the war but also the conflicting ideologies of those who believe the emperor to be a god and his servant the custodies who know he's not

Had honestly not expected it to be as good as it was
Fantastic story in the most bleak of circumstances, the author manages to create real characters each with their own uniqueness and ambitions, amidst the backdrop of the coming Indomitus. I really enjoyed this, more so than I thought I would. Fantastically narrated. Well done.

Brilliant nuanced characters
loves this book. loved the different perspectives and how no character was purely good or evil. Everyone was sympathetic and I found myself cheering both sides. Really hope to revisit these characters in future books, especially the Mordians and Iron Warriors.
