Summary

The end of the world had arrived just as many had predicted, in a global exchange of nuclear weapons.

What no one predicted was the sudden message that appeared before every living soul moments before impact, a message from "The Administrators" revealing our entire world and everything in it to be a species simulation. According to the message, humanity had been reset over a million times and every single time we could not prevent our own extinction.

No more resets for humanity. No more chances.

They would leave our world an irradiated disaster, but to keep things interesting, they would convert our species simulation to a game for their twisted entertainment.

Digital or not, real or not, I have a family to protect. A wife and daughter who need me, universe be damned. I say bring it on. Welcome to the end of the world.

Welcome to The Great Filter.

Great but not my choice for an ending.

Really enjoyed this book but I prefer my books with a clean and relatively happy ending, so sue me.

I can only presume the next book, if there is one, will hopefully rectify this.
In light of this I really wanted to to downgrade my review to 4 stars but overall I felt unable to do so. I suspect this shows how good the story is.

The narrator is, as usual, excellent.

Good read

It was a good book and worth listening to. Well read and kept me interested although it was quite slow at times and didn't actually have much of the gamelit bits most do. Although, it did feel like a long introduction to the series and characters so hopefully the story, speed and mechanics will pick up next book. Bit of a preview, and origin story.

really not good

well intial idea was ok but it just got worse and worse like 1911 9mm best semi auto ever well no it's a apc45 generically and was only the best semi until 1912. The story and narration just don't make the grade.
