About this listen

The cold waters of Lake Genosgawa hide a terrifying secret.

After his first encounter, waking dreams torment 11-year-old Greg Camden. The creature in the lake feeds on his emotions, driving him deeper and deeper into his own nightmares. She tried to break him and feed on his fears that horrible summer, but instead, she imparted a psychic gift…

Twenty-one years later, Greg joins forces with the survivors from neighboring Oneka Falls to put an end to the demonic infestation once and for all.

Can they survive a battle with The Hag?

Brilliant story with excellent narration.

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I think I've ever read that seems to show the inside-track of daemonic culture power play from an almost corporate way. This is played alongside real world action and a great, creepy vibe from the town and titular Hag. I also really liked how the book jumped between times (narratively) and people from the past appear and become mainstays in the future, a great bit of foreshadowing here.

With so many characters, both human and monsterous, it'd be easy for a narrator to take the easy-route and go with a vanilla voicetrack but here Kerr has thrown down the proverbial gauntlet and voices each one impeccably. Be it a Daemon or a human, each character has not only an independent voice but a real sense of personality which really brought the book to life.

Thoroughly enjoyable and we'll worth your time, heck I read it in a day as it was so gripping!
