Summary

A faceless corpse is discovered in a tranquil, hidden valley below the village of Swainshead. And when Chief Inspector Alan Banks arrives, he finds that no-one is willing to talk. Banks' frustration only grows when the identity of the body is revealed. For it seems that his latest case may be connected with an unsolved murder in the same area five years ago. Abridged versions cut out the padding

I've been re-listening to this series and am struck by how the abridged versions tell the story perfectly well with the advantage that the lengthy descriptions of Inspector Bank's musical playlists, that pad out the unabridged books, are largely absent, but not the product placements and excessive mentions of characters smoking: authorial proselytizing? It's a good story ably narrated.
