Summary

Johanna Templeton is on a life-and-death quest. Swept into an intrigue that rivals the tales she pens, she joins forces with a Highland rogue to find the treasure that will save her kidnapped niece—a prize the Scot seeks for reasons that have nothing to do with ransom. Engaging the Highlander in a sizzling battle of the sexes, Johanna shields her heart.

Connor MacMasters, spy for Queen Victoria, is a man on a mission—keep a legendary gemstone from an evil man. Trailing an American novelist who holds the key to the treasure should've been simple, but Johanna awakens feelings he'd long thought dead. Torn between duty and desire, he wants her in his bed, but loving her would be a fool's game. Blasted shame his heart doesn't agree.

Contains mature themes.

bot too bright heroine

OMG, the heroine is so dumb!

She not only decides to travel to another country to meet with criminals she believes have killed her brother-in-law alone, without trying to find someone to help her

but she actively tries to leave the only people who HAVE helped her so far & who could've both left her for dead & stolen her bag if they really wanted to
to

even when she KNOWS the killers are right outside the house & she herself has realised that they would've just killed her, not negotiated with her!

I can understand her being wary at first, but after he's saved you at least five times... now you're just being dumb & she takes it to a whole new level of inanity

There's no good reason why she can't tell them WHY she's there... it's not as if them knowing the reason she came will affect her helping her niece, quite the opposite!

Sorry, but she really suffers from the dumb female syndrome that authors seem to love!
