The story was ok, a good idea and would have filled a few hours; but couldn't finish this due to the narration. The narrator sounded much older and genteel than the main character was meant to be, and really REALLY struggled with accents. The dialogue between Scottish and Irish characters is what made me call it quits.

I liked this book, the story is well written and the pace is good. The plot draws you in with different strands and the narration is okay. But. There is something about the characters and the dialogue that somehow do not run true for me. I felt the relationship between the main character and her husband was a bit flat, yes there is drama and tension, it would be boring with out it, but what we have is so so. The idea is well visualised and if not original, entertaining enough to keep you listening, but again there is something missing and I don't know what it is.

I chose this book having enjoyed others by the same author. The story was ok, although not as good as the author’s other work. Unfortunately the narrator ruined this for me. They sounded completely unsuitable for the protagonist who was said to be born and bred in Birmingham. I don’t think the narrator can ever have heard a midlands accent! Even allowing for a non-regional narration the voice was strange, with odd tones and pronunciations and I felt it just didn’t fit the main character at all. The other characters were as bad, the ‘Scottish’ one was laughable!
It’s a shame the narration was so poor as I think I would have got a lot more from this story if it had been read differently.

I love James Brogden and this was another wonderful story with an interesting crossover between the here and now, legend, and fantasy. There are a few loose ends that I’m not sure I fully grasped but I really enjoyed it nonetheless.

I wasn’t keen on the narrator - her voice didn’t match the personality of the main character in the slightest - but this didn’t spoil my overall experience.

the story was great, engaging with a good pace but the narration was such a poor choice. It took away from the book. The main character is a witty young woman who is made to sound like an aristocratic old lady. There are some dodgy accents and some of the word pronunciations were truly shocking! Sigils was pronounced 'siggles' and Peugeot was pronounced 'pea jou' just to point out a few! are these things not listened to by an editor or anything???
