About this listen
The dramatic story of freelance photographer Daniel Rye, who was held hostage for 13 months by ISIS, as told by an award-winning writer.
In a tense and riveting narrative, The ISIS Hostage details freelance photographer Daniel Rye's 13-month ordeal at the hands of the Islamic State after he was captured in Syria, and the misery inflicted upon him, and 19 other hostages, by the British guards, which included Jihadi John.
This compelling account also follows Daniel's family and the nerve-wracking negotiations with his kidnappers. It traces their horrifying journey through impossible dilemmas, and offers a rare glimpse into the secret world of the investigation launched to locate and free not only Daniel, but also the American freelance journalist and fellow hostage James Foley.
Written with Daniel's full cooperation and based on interviews with former fellow prisoners, jihadists, and key figures who worked behind the scenes to secure his release, The ISIS Hostage reveals for the first time the torment suffered by the captives and tells a moving and terrifying story of friendship, torture, and survival.

Hell on earth
Brilliant book but written under such sad circumstances. Hopefully one day this will be a thing of the past!

Great book
The guy performing the read didn't have a natural audio book voice and failed to capture the tone of the captors.
Aside from that the book was captivating. It was written from two points of view; that of the hostage and that of his mother.

Incredibly humbling. The reader's voice was okay
Really interesting. Incredible story told honestly and with sensitivity. I found narrator's voice okay at best. This story has lingered in my mind for days and I feel so sorry for these captives

excellent.
I cannot say enough good things about this audio book.
Normally I would not or could not get into a book such as this as it would not hold my attention once politics was mentioned but I have learned so much about what went on leading to the war in Syria.
I have learned it through the eyes of all of the hostages and about how each of their Countries handles hostage situations. I have seen through the eyes of their families and friends .
Alleppo is not just a place on the news anymore to me. It is a place with real people's suffering on a daily basis .
The reality is told with no holds barred yet with compassion and humanity .

Very powerful
A war caused by people who will never feel its effects. The problems continue today.
Excellent performance, clear and the whole story is so matter of fact even though it is about such horrors.
