About this listen

The Jonathan Shade series continues with books 4-6: The Complete Time Travel Trilogy

Includes:

Anubis Nights (Book 4)

Hunting a dead sorcerer in ancient Egypt

Sharon shows up with a time god named Chronos, and they send me back to ancient Egypt to stop a dead sorcerer named Henry Winslow from getting the Emerald Tablets of Thoth.

No big deal, right? If I can't stop him, the world I know will only be wiped from the sands of time.

For his murder....

Sunset Specters (Book 5)

Magic and murder in the Barbary Coast

Chasing a sorcerer through time sucks. Kelly and I find ourselves in 1877 hunting Henry Winslow in San Francisco's Barbary Coast.

That place is crazy. It's filled with gangs, crimps, thieves, cutthroats, prostitutes, magic, and a supernatural threat.

One thing is certain, we're not getting out of here alive.

Wizard’s Nocturne (Book 6)

A murder in layered time

I'm not a fan of time travel. Especially when it's of the slow variety.

So I find myself in New York City in the roaring 20s where flappers dance to jazz, you can't get a legal drink, and secret societies kill each other for magical dominance.

One cool thing is that I get to meet Esther as a living, breathing woman, but what's not so cool is that my presence could lead to her death.

I have to stop Henry Winslow, who is now at his most powerful, and I have two obstacles who just stepped out of the sands of time: Kelly Chan and her colleague, Jonathan Shade.

This second collection of Jonathan Shade books tends to share more traits with the final book in the previous set of three and by this point the author seems to have established his tone fully for them and they have become a bit more of ensemble pieces with the main supporting cast becoming more prominent in the books, this works overall since they had more room to develop over the previous books anyway.

This set of three books has a connected time travel arc as Shade and his friends have to travel back to three separate time periods in order to stop a powerful magician named Henry Winslow from successfully completing a plan that will give him even more power, but is everything as it seems with this person.

Yet again, this narrator has helped to enhance an enjoyable book with another strong performance with a pleasant tone and a distinctive range of voices for the various characters that adds to their depth nicely.

Overall, this is a another good collection of books, being both enjoyable and good value at the same time, but I would recommend reading/listening to the first collection before this as they are both worth reading.
