About this listen
The gripping story of a young boy and his family, driven from their home by war and indiscriminate violence. Like millions of others, they attempt the treacherous journey across their war-torn continent, trying to reach the safety of Europe. The truth is, Europe doesn't want them, and thousands die every month at the hands of thieves and profiteering men to whom life is cheap. Kalu believes that he can lead his family to safety. They have money and a plan, and Kalu is, after all, the smartest man in Monguno.
The story is fast paced and will make you think. It will make you question your perceptions. Most of all it will make you ask, if your family was in peril, what would you do?

The last chapter
I wasn't expecting that.
Oh my emotions were up and down and down then up.
This journey isn't over yet.

Exceptional
I don't know where to start. This story has made me, sad, happy, hopeful, despairing and very thoughtful. I couldn't stop listening to it.
I found myself totally engrossed, to the point where I felt like a bystander, watching from the side lines, thanking God that I am safe at home, and not enduring everything this family went through. Mankind at its worst, .........and at it's best.
I promise you, if you read or listen to this book, you will be left with more of an understanding, of the tyranny some of these people have fled from.
Boko Haram are terrifying people, who rule with fear, and I thank God I have never come across such soulless people in my life.
Peter Noble was excellent at narrating this book. Conrad Jones, painted a picture so vividly, of all the characters, buildings and situations, I had no trouble at all seeing them, smelling them and living them. Peter Noble's voice, brought even more of my imagination to life.

Just listen to it
A very harrowing, graphic and gripping story, read beautifully. Just listen to it but be warned, it's a hard listen - but so important.

Will make you rethink about refugees
I was not sure what I would make of this book, I always felt that countries around Europe or when the leave Europe should take in refugees and many people have told me im wrong . Well those people will all get copies of this for their birthdays.
A beautifully written book and very well read .
It grabbed me straight away and had to stay up all night to find out what happens to the characters.
I think this book should be put on to the must read for English studies lists in all schools .
