Summary
In the summer of 1990, Cathy's brother, Matty, was knocked down by a car on the way home from a night out, two weeks before receiving his GCSE results. Sitting by his unconscious body in hospital, holding his hand and watching his heartbeat on the monitors, Cathy and her parents willed him to survive.
They did not know then that there are many fates worse than death.

Heartbreakingly honest
This is such an important story that needs to be told. How does a person heal from the pain and trauma of such an awful experience? I have been crying on the train listening to this but it has given me hope that I will know that I can get through the tough times ahead. Thank you, Cathy, for being so brave and honest. I wish you all the best for your future.

Moving
A very sensitive observation of a sibling relationship. A family coming to terms with the tragic circumstances of an accident.

Emotional, thought provoking & heart warming
I thought the beginning of the story was a bit slow & I wasn't warming to the characters that much. I persevered & I'm really glad I did. Anyone who has recently suffered a loss can relate to this story in one way or another.

Heartbreaking and beautiful
The author writes about her brother’s life changing accident, and the years that follow with such love and honesty. One of the most beautiful memoirs that I have ever read

Beautiful, touching, honest.
Cathy Rentzenbrink has beautifully told her sad tale with humour punctuating it and a warmth that shines through continually making hers a moving, honest, account of personal trauma. Perfectly done.

Heartfelt and very brave
This book is deeply upsetting as it a heartfelt account of a family's struggle following tragedy.
Well written and narrated throughout but I found it extremely sad.

Tragic
They say it's good to cry. If that's the case then this is an extremely good book. Have some hankies at the ready.
